It could be done, but I'm sure his Grandpa helped out a little. And most guns used for bear hunting don't kick as bad as to knock down a man.

Sure, Grandpa helped. And according to his Dad, the kid has been shooting since he was under the age of 3.
They live just a little way across the river from me. I saw an interview with them on the local morning show this morning.

The 5 year old isn't killing the bear himself, the gun is doing all the work. Some kids can shoot, it is in their blood. I wouldn't doubt the truth of it, although I don't see this as sometihng we are going to see start happening every day.

Just saw this on the news. Definitely possible, and probable. He shot it with a "youth rifle", probably a .243 Winchester. This rifle is powerful enough for deer and black bear, but has very little recoil. According to his grandfather the kid killed 3 deer last year and is the 9th great grandson of Davy Crockett.

The overall vast majority of firearms have manageable recoil ("kickback"), and many don't have very bad recoil at all (especially to an experienced shooter). Of course there are some calibers, and light-weight rifles that will kick the snot out of you, but not knock you to the ground. Recoil is personally subjective anyway - I could shoot my friend's .375H&H all day...other people one shot and done.
The non-sense you see in movies, of people flying through the air on both ends of the gun is just fake sensationalism.

Actually a 5 year old makes better bait, but you could arm him in case you miss the bear with your first shot.
Now that there's funny I don't care who you are.
Actually I had my son started on a .22 rifle at about 3 or 3 1/2. He loved shooting my Rem. Nylon...at a bench on the police range, that is...

Yeah its possible but its very unlikely. I saw this story on the news and he was shooting since he was 2 years old so its all possible. There was this time. Oh it was funny. We were bird hunting up north and it was Moose hunting season also. We stopped near this guy and his boy on the side of the road. He asked us if we had 300 yards of cable to get his moose out. This moose was out there in a huge swamp. I asked him what kind of rifle he shot it with. He replied, "Oh I didn't shoot it. My son here did." His son was no more than 11 years old holding a 410 break action shotgun........ Need I say more. Haha.
Its not like he was shooting this gun:

hi there
at 5 years my daughter was shooting clay pigions with a 16 gauge shot gun, i see no reason why he couldn't shoot a bear,if he can aim the gun and pull the trigger, it may put him on his butt, depending on what caliber he was shooting.

Yes it's possible. As for Stampy Skunk it's obvious by your post you know nothing about firearms or hunting so why are you here?
