Im just curious to why big people give up so easy when it comes to diets and exercise? Acually a guy posted a question asking would you date a fat guy and most women answered "oh yes as long as his personality is good its not all about looks"! Personally i belive that to be bs. I have nothing against fat people and i have big friends i just would never date a bigger person. I find most bigger people to have alot of excuses to why they cant exercise and consider a diet a #1 supersize fries with a "diet coke"! ? Ive tried numerous times to have couple of my bigger friends workout with me and i tried helping them out but next thing i hear is an excuse! Im in shape yet everyday i workout and eat healthy and im not fat i dont need to workout but i still do. It bothers me cause two big people get married or have a child and pass on their bad habits to their children and the poor kid has to suffer. I think america society caters to bigger people and only encourge bad health!

Do people really think bigger is beautiful? Im sorry if i offend anyone. I just hate people that stuff their face with pizza and garbage then turn around later and cry about being big!

i agree im no one to judge........But really what gives people the right to bring a child into the world and feed them crap and then blame it on genes or his bigger than most kids he needs to eat more. Poor kids get made fun of for the rest of his life. Im not saying get super model thin. Im just saying make an effort eat better workout. Dont sit on the couch and expect people to pity you because your fat! Then drown your sorrow with a pizza

Sorry this is so long - but it's something I've been dealing with lately, so...

Trying to change dietary habits is incredibly hard - in years of working (as a nurse) with people who would benefit hugely from minor changes in their diets, because of certain disease processes, I saw how tough it is for people to change. At first I couldn't understand why they wouldn't do what seemed to me to be very simple things to make themselves healthier and feel better - but eventually I realized that many people have serious emotional attachments to food. With out certain types of food they feel deprived and some people get seriously depressed.

It is hard to re-learn how to interact differently with food. It is even harder to convince someone that getting up off the couch is going to help them feel better when they have been using the TV as a security blanket for their whole life.

I was always very thin - until I got pregnant with my first child and discovered how devastating an increased appetite can be. I gained a huge amount of weight, lost most of my conditioning (used to be a runner), and was tired all the time. The combination of increased appetite, fatigue, and lack of conditioning did a real number on me mentally - it was just plain hard to get my a** moving. But I finally did because I realized I didn't want my child to grow up with a sloth for a mom. The first couple months were tough, but eventually I got back into the swing of being healthy and everything worked out.

Having been through that I have much more sympathy for people who have trouble losing weight. I, at least, had a place to get back to. I knew how good it felt to be healthy - but for someone who's never been there it has to be almost unimaginable what a difference it can make - especially looking at all the hard work they will have to do to get healthy.

Most people focus on the work and deprivation they will have to face and not the end result. I also think the media's attention on being super thin contributes to people losing faith in themselves - it's so easy to get discouraged by these "perfect" bodies which are, for most people, unattainable and in some cases really unhealthy!

If you really want to help your friends - don't try to get them to fit your idea of what healthy is. Try to help them make simple easy choices to start. Working out at a gym is very intimidating to someone who is "big" - try starting with getting them to go for a walk with you, instead. When you go out for dinners or whatever - order healthy and skip the sugary dessert and grab some fruit instead.

You can't be so judgmental.

I see where you're coming from, but there's truly nothing we can do about it.

If someone wants to change for the better, then they will.

Why is it so uncommon to see an extremely heavy person to transform into a thin person? I've wondered this many times. Is it hard to lose weight? Yes and no. I suppose it could be hard to find the motivation, but if someone wanted to lose weight that badly, then it shouldn't be a problem.

I won't, however, hate anyone for the way that they look. Who am I to judge? Do I think bigger people are beautiful? Well, I certainly believe that a lot of "bigger" people are a lot better looking than those 60-pound anorexics.

a lot of people are unrealistic about the speed of fat loss. many believe that just because they are eating healthier and exercising "now" that the fat should literally melt away. however that is not how the human body functions. when people have been sedentary and consuming heavily processed foods for years on end their entire body is unhealthy. diets high in processed foods are used to construct all of the cells structures in the body. when substandard materials are used to construct anything the functionality of the end product is reduced. so the muscle cell of the obese person that has been sedentary and eating processed foods for 5,10, 20 years is not going to function properly and fat loss will be minimal at best. the body turns over about 60-70% of it's cells several times a year. it may take several of these cycles while on a healthy diet for these unhealthy cells to be replaced with fully functional cells that were manufactured from materials made by foods provided by the new healthy diet. this is why the saying that you are what you eat is so true. cell structures made by materials provided by lean proteins, whole grains, vegetables and fruits are markedly more efficient than cells made from cookies, snack cakes, crackers, soft drinks and other heavily processed man made foods.

Being a former fat girl...the bad stuff tasted better, it's easier, portions are huge, and I just didn't care. Now, I constantly watch what I eat, keep a food journal, and exercise on regular basis. I've lost 100lbs and will never go back.
You have to want to help yourself get healthy. If someone doesn't have the motivation for it...they're not going to do it.

those kind of fat people sound a lot like my mom

dont u think if parents bought up kids better (more veg less crap) kids would have better nutrition

my moms idea of veg was peas.... (thats it)
