The answer is Yes.

But the supreme being couldn't possibly lose, so satan took a sucker's bet, at least according to the opinion of some people.

Odd, something about a particular donkey avatar forced me to read the question the first time around as "If God had lost his bet with Santa...." Now that would be a question I couldn't answer.

I like The Book of Job , it is a shame more Christians don’t reference it .
God and Satan are good friends – walking and talking together , having a little bit of fun at the expense of poor ol’ Job.

I don’t think anyone won the bet , all we can say is that Job suffered , unnecessarily. Omniscience already knew the result , there was no point to Kill Jobs family and strip Job of the earnings of his hard work .

God knew the outcome of the "bet" as you call it, even before Satan suggested it to him, this is why He let Satan try! His trust in Job was total and He was right to trust him.... I wish I had that much Faith in God all the time, when disaster strucks.... If you knew our Lord a little you wouldn't even ask this question

It seems pointless for an omniscient deity to gamble anyway. He already knew that Job was going to keep believing, because he knows everything that will happen.

All he needed to do was explain to Satan how he knew that Job would keep believing (e.g. by explaining the physical laws that would cause Job to make his choices), and he wouldn't have had to put Job through all that hardship.

God seems a little childish throughout that book, to me. But, I'm betting that other guy would have felt some pity....

No. There is another verse in the bible that says that God will not test us beyond what we can bear. God knew that Job could stand up to anything Satan threw at him, so He tested Job to help build his faith. He does it with all of us who are Christian so that we can build faith.
