Because I don't. Not any more than I hate mickey mouse, or superman, or batman, or spiderman, or noah, or the ninja turtles, or pj sparkles, or the care bears, or frodo baggins, or spongebob squarepants, or jimmy neutron....
Do you hate imaginary beings? Isn't that a sign that you should seek professional help?
Why do you tell me that I just hate god/jesus?

those of you who said you hated spongebob or the ninja turtles, In all honesty, you hate the show in which they are portrayed...NOT the actual characters...I hate a great deal of the bible, but not the charachters...

because Christians or other types of religions usually believe that anyone who doesn't like their religion or God are "evil" or hate God etc. I am christian, but not until recently (dating you) did I actually start to see other religions as unique and a whole. Some religious freaks (sorry) usually are psychotic and believe everything the Bible tells them. Such as, Jesus rose lazarus from the dead. is there proof??? There has been some proof of religious stories from the Bible, but those who tell Athiests and other non-believers of the "so called" Bible that they hate God, they are not getting the whole story of what Athieism really is about and are just ignorant

Interesting question, I think. I'd like to explain the Christian perspective, if I may. My position on it is that the phrase has become a little cliched - but the principle behind it is good. I think there are a couple of ways to look at it. The first is how God relates to people (and I'm talking about the Christian God here). Before you become a Christian you, most probably, have some sin in your life. The Bible says "all have sinned and fallen short of God's standards". So that person is a sinner. Yet somehow, that person can experience something of the love of God and become a Christian. There are famous examples, for example John Newton, who was a slave trader, but found God, and ended up writing one of our best known Hymns, Amazing Grace. Did God hate the sin? Yes - slave trading is abhorrent to God. Of course God hates that. Did God hate John Newton? No, absolutely not - God showed His love in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us and in 1 John 4 is says we love becuase God loved us first. The second way is how we relate to others. Now I start off by saying we Christians are far from perfect, but taking God as our role model, we should be loving the person. In fact people. In my small way I practice this - I try to live it out. Another thought on this is that its not what we do that causes God to love us - its what we are. We are human being, created in the image and likeness of God. That's why He loves us - because we are human beings, not human doings ;) Kind regards, Mike

I don't normally hate things that don't exist.
But I really hate the Teletubbies. I just can't stand them.
Need I still seek professional help? Or should I ban my children from watching that show? But they go on, and on, and on about them if I do change the channel.
Sometimes ignoring the embodiment of imaginary beings is not enough. Isn't it possible to despise the created image of something that doesn't really exist?
You watch a few episodes and you'll see what I mean.

They tell you this because they can't get you to believe.
Don't let them get you, they want you to conform or be gone.
Not all religous people want you to do this but some are so pushy and ignorant they will believe anything in the bible...
They forget about the things that made jesus more human though that was removed from the bible for censorship. Sex, scandel, violence and murder. Some of which were key and must be left in.

Some people don't have the ability to step outside their own perspective. They know that if they were saying the things that we said, it would mean that they were angry at God and so we must be angry at God.
It would be like us assuming they were joking because if we said what they're saying, we'd just be joking.
The ability to be impartial or objective will be the end of religion.
[edit] Who hates Sponge Bob or Spiderman??? They're the best!

Because they can't conceptualize the possibility that maybe you actually don't believe that someone said "LET THERE BE LIGHT" and all of a sudden there was a whole damn world filled with animals and stuff. Arguing with christians always ends with "Jesus said it so it's gotta be right. Duh."
Never a good time fighting with those people.

You should be specific - Christian people. I am sure Hindus are not saying that to you...nor Taoists or Shinto.
As for why Christians say that...they are taught that from an early age. They are told atheists hate God or they would follow God. And so are brainwashed.

I hate spongebob - so annoying.
Anyway, that is their way of rationalizing someone who doesn't believe as they do. Who could possibly not believe without hating which they do not believe?
Same paradigm that was attributed to "Sympathetic Whites" during the civil-rights movement - they must hates whites (their own kind) - what other possible reason could there be for their actions?
Going against something that is so engrained into society is simply incomprehensible to them.

It's because they try to fit everything into what their religion teaches them. Very rarely do believers actually look at the reality of other's beliefs or investigate the truth of what they are taught in church. So if their pastor or a leader tells them that atheists are satan worshipers or vile evil doers, they will believe it no matter how much we prove it to be wrong.

Ignorance. Most really don't even bother to research what atheism is, they believe what their congregation tells them and it's usually that we are god-haters, immoral, baby eaters, satan worshipers.
