Mung bean, also known as mung dal, moong dal, mash bean, munggo or monggo, green gram, golden gram, and green soy, is the seed of Vigna radiata which is native to India.

The beans are small, ovoid in shape, and green in color.

The English word "mung" derives from the Hindi mung. In the South Indian Tamil language it is known as payiru, in Kannada as hesaru bele and in the Philippines as munggo or monggo.

The mung bean is one of many species recently moved from the genus Phaseolus to Vigna and is still often seen cited as Phaseolus aureus or Phaseolus radiatus. These are all the same plant.

Thus the scientific name of the seeds / plant in question is
Vigna radiata OR Phaseolus radiatus ( Old name )

It belongs to the bean family Fabaceae .

I like the question. I can tell the age of the mother when she started having kids by how many vowels, "q", "z" or cuteness of the person's name I am talking to. Young mothers who don’t know any better start naming the kids all kinds of junk. Then, finally the youngest kid may have a normal name b/c the mother has learned the lesson. Regardless of what people think or say they feel, your baby will be first judged by her name long before people meet her. Name her something screwed up and you might as well put a tattoo on her face and neck when she is born. Because she will carry that badge as sure as I am sitting here. Ask someone older than your mother for good names. Ask a grandparent or senior mentor. I wouldn't listen to these yahoo's for advice on how to use a payphone. I work in the court systems and the names I see where the kids are in the most trouble are the cutesy crappy names that the poor kid has got to spell for people all their life in order for it to get spelled correctly. Look for a name that would be appropriate on a wedding invitation, or graduation announcement or diploma on the wall. It can be generic, but do the kid a favor and don't handicap them at this stage just so you can feel good about the label. You owe the child a fair chance, do them that favor. All of this is simply my opinion, experience and observation. BTW, I am a third. MDC, III.
