Because Santa (commercialized from Pagan roots) is an adult who brings merriment and joy to children and adults through gift-giving and family gatherings while Jesus (just born) is a BABY on this day (according to popular tradition, though his birthdate is actually in April or May). There is no reason for him to be conceived as "solemn" either. Many babies are quite happy and joyful.
Blessings to you.

Santa Clause, is make believe and Jesus is real. Its easier to ignore the sin of the world if you are just a fantasy. But if you gave your life so that people could have a better life and they totally ignored you, wouldn't that make you sad?
