Hello,
(ANS) NO!! DON'T buy windows Vista. Why? because it requires a new PC with much much higher hardware specifications just to run it. Vista gobbles RAM for breakfast, gobbles as much memory as you can throw at it just to run a reasonable set up (nothing special).
**Vista is to put it politely MASSIVE it has a huge foot print, takes up vast amounts of hard disk space.
**Requires a top end specification graphics card just to run the new Aero interface.
**Vista is probably the most over stuffed, over featured, slow buggy version of windows ever ( I am talking from experience here having used literally every version of MS-DOS & MS Windows since it was invented). Vista in my opinion is literally a step backwards in windows development, its far far to complicated and has far far to many features. Many of the previous XP windows features have been either removed, changed or placed in some obscure location 3 or 4 menu layers down, so its NOT what I would call user friendly.
**No! stick with Windows XP Pro which is in my opinion the best version of windows ever created in all its years. XP has the right balance of features (not too many) and performance. XP can easily be tuned to fly and be highly responsive, security issues can also be ironed out without much difficulty.
**There is no real proof that Vista is more secure than XP its a myth.
**With Vista you cannot install it onto an older XP machine and it work well its dog slow and aweful I know I tried it. And quickly went back to XP. Vista requires a new PC.
**Windows Vista has to have "Vista compatible" drivers (many devices & applications don't have vista drivers yet even now, many companies are still playing catch up with vista).
**Many applications (software programs) are NOT Vista compatible, new versions of software have had to be created to run or play happily with Vista.
NO! stick with XP Pro its certainly the best version of windows in my opinion. I wont be buying Vista in the near future.
Hope thats useful?
Kind Regards Ivan

Hi, get Vista, u will love it. Windows Xp is nothing compared to Vista, its the easiest OS out there, I mean its still Windows. Its better than Xp in a lot of ways such as security and looks and 3d effects and directx10 and stuff. It is worth it and there is no point sticking with the 7 year old Xp and whatever u do do not disable user account control or UAC like the people here r telling u to cause thats a very important security feature. Good Luck and take care! Edit: Hi again, I just read your question and if u need it for 3 to 4 years then u must get Vista cause Xp will be in the garbage by then, do u really want to use such an old system? Take care!

Having had both XP and Vista on my machine i now prefer Vista and have not had any problems with it at all Yes it is slower than XP but if you have a fast PC then you don't really notice it much and there are many programs that have been released that work on Vista even ones that say that they won't - most of the time they do! And many programs have been updated to work on Vista now even the 64bit version that i'm running which had very little support at the beginning has many programs that work with it so all of this 'Oh don't get it it has so many problems' that i keep seeing around is really silly as you'll have to eventually have to get Vista in a few years anyway when Microsoft stop supporting XP so just bite the bullet you never know if you don't try it yourself you may even **Shock Horror** like it!!

No, it wouldn't.
Sometime in early 2008, Microsoft is supposed to be releasing the first Service Pack for Vista which may make it better, we can but hope.
Even so, I would still give it until 2009 until I'd even consider ditching XP as there are still too many driver problems for a lot of hardware that is suddenly incompatible with Vista but which worked fine on XP.
In fact, Dell had to buy a couple of million more licenses for XP recently because customers simply didn't want Vista.
My guess would be that the salesman is on some sort of bonus if he sells the Vista OS. It is NOT the way to go right now.

well put it this way the reason people like XP is because they know how to use, and if there is a problem, it can be fixed, now i bought a HP pc and it had vista and there have been some problems with it. but the thing is soon they will be able to fix vista just as good as they can fix XP, and soon XP will be old news. so i say get vista , because someday they will make some programs that won't work with XP, and you will wish you got vista.

No. Stick with XP.
If you really must go with Vista, and I wouldn't recommend it, at least wait until Service Pack 1 is realised sometime early next year.
In all the benchmarks I have seen, XP always comes out faster. And right now there is nothing that Vista can do which XP can't, apart from DirectX 10. But I believe there are people trying to get that working on XP.

I've got vista and the only problem I've got with it is with some of my existing programmes, games etc that worked on XP wont work on vista. However, this will alter as time progresses and new programmes will be geared towards vista as opposed to XP. How many new programmes are geared to windows 95 now? Operationally, Vista is so much easier than XP. However, it would appear that I am in a minority

Having had both I would stick with XP, it's much more stable and better value at the moment. Vista can be quite slow and throws all sorts of stuff on the PC that you don't need. Admittedly a lot of it can be taken off, but my experience is it's quite slow in comparison.
I've just switched my laptop back from Vista to XP.

I have a Vista computer since March. My attitude about it is why did MS screw around with XP when it worked. We are forced to learn where icons are, formatting etc. Lots of things are hidden. I guess if you are a computer tekkie it's probably no problem for you, but for me, it's a pain in the neck. If I could get XP again, I would. I had software that wasnt compatible with Vista and that cost me several hundred dollars.

A lot of programs work with XP and a lot of programs aren't compatible with Vista yet. Vista has a lot of problems it takes up a lot of memory for one thing. XP has a lot of errors but compared to Vista it's nothing
