Isn't it true that humankind is becoming smarter and wiser as our species thrive and gain experience through history and that we improve in all aspects of knowledge? Its true. Then why are atheists coming out nowadays? Can't we see the overwhelming evidence of the existence of God. If you are an atheist tell me the reasons why you chose to be one.

The overwhelming evidence to me is the existence of the universe. Even science cannot truly explain why. And it can't be possible that the universe was created by an occurence or anything. Everything that exists has a cause and an effect. And it isn't God who created or made suffering. Its us human beings who made it under influence from the devil. In all of God's wisdom why did He give us humans our own free will. Because He loved us. That my belief because that seems to be the most reasonable answer to the existence of anything. But we cant explain the what caused the creation of God because nothing created God and God was always there. No beginning, No end. No one can say that it is wrong because we humans have limited intelligence, wisdom and understanding of God. God told us that He created everything so I believe that.

I respect atheists because they have the skill of reasoning. Religious people have the skill of reasoning too.

There have always been people that have chosen to deny God, and sadly there always will be.

There is a difference between an Atheist and being Agnostic - which I consider myself to be.
There are many possibilities involving a Higher Being, I would hate to think that this is all there is - when it's over it's over.
I don't believe that.
But the atrocities committed throughout history in the name of one religion over another are mind boggling.
It was when I was very young - maybe 10 -11 that I remember reading accounts of people with the same God and religious Book - murdering each other by the thousands over minute difference in Dogma, that forced to really wonder.
Combined with the pomp that make all these rituals just so much flummery.
Another example - Christians should be celebrating the birth of Baby Jesus - sure - nice songs, family time, but geez it's just become an orgy of spend spend spend and nonsense.
Enough said.

No, we can't all see the overwhelming evidence of the existence of God. If you can see such evidence, I advise you to tell no one until you've written a book about it. I guarantee you'll make billions of dollars.

I am very underwhelmed by your evidence. Firstly, the lack of a scientific explanation is not evidence of a supernatural explanation. If you go back just a few hundred years people didn't know what lightning was. A lot of people decided that since they didn't understand it, it was caused by a god. We now know better. It's ridiculous to suggest that everything science hasn't yet explained is supernatural.
Secondly, even if what you're saying is evidence of supernatural creation, it would be evidence for a deistic god. And you don't strike me as a deist.

I guess I am an atheist, because I don't really believe in God. I mean, sure, there isn't proof he doesn't exist, but no one can prove he does, can they?? Besides, I've seen some pretty nasty people who are also extremely 'religious'. I'm not suggesting all religious people are nasty, or that all atheists are nice, but I feel that one can simply be good without needing to believe in God. Besides, why should it bother anyone what someone else feels about religion? It's a free world, or should be, as far as Belief of this sort goes.

I do not think atheist are increasing in percentage. According to surveys less than 5% of American's are atheist.
Just as you said, with information and knowledge people are turning away from organized religions. The organized religions are perching the age old message, they can not adapt to modern needs. So people who find the organized religion too stifling are trying to find alternatives.
Intelligent people have found ways around this problem.

A Hindu is an individual soul who has been separated from God, is under illusion and has been in the process of rejoining God some day. No one need force him to become a Hindu in the physical sense, because one day, in some birth, he will become aware of what he is or who he is. What he does in between is all part of a Divine Play

How does the existence of the universe prove the existence of your god (or any god, for that matter)? By that logic, I could just as easily say that the existence of the universe proves the existence of a giant universe-generating machine in a place called Sputulon.

If I am to believe in a god -- and that's not bloody likely anymore -- I need a heck of a lot more to go on than "X can't be explained/duplicated by man, therefore a god exists."

I chose to be an atheist because, firstly I beliee in niether Heaven or Hell. I believe in science that offers reliable evidence. I think that basing everything on a God that we've never seen nor heard from is basically resting on our laurels. An easy way of not getting to the truth. Now, don't get me wrong, I totally respect anyone with faith if that's what they choose to believe and I'm not denouncing those beliefs. This is just what I happen to think. I have tried to believe in God for a long time but I just cannot bring myself to do so. I find the Koran, the Torah and the Bible, etcetera to resemble (quite alot) that of Roman and Greek mythology and completely unbelievable.

Well, I didn't choose to become an atheist. It just happened as I started looking for answers. And I have never seen anything remotely akin to "overwhelming evidence of the existence of God". When you start to educate yourself about all the aspects of religion and god, and actually look at both sides of the story, instead of just one, you get a much clearer picture, though it may not be what you were hoping to see.

The reason why some people don’t believe in God is mainly because of all the inconsistencies and falsehoods of religious scriptures.
Religious leaders have used their dogma to oppress, victimize and terrorize those who refuse to subscribe to their particular brand of bigotry.
Jesus and John the Baptist were classic victims of tyrannical bigotry from greedy selfish religious charlatans.
Religion has had more to do with human selfishness and greed than with righteousness, piety, compassion and spirituality.

The evil, vicious, and greedy individuals enjoy success and prosperity from the exploitation of the weak. But the weak and less affluent individuals are fooled with false promises of a paradise called Heaven, which can only be accessed after death.

I was a Christian for decades. One day, after another disappointing sermon. One sect criticising another and knowing that each sect thinks that they are right. They can't all be right, can they? I thought blow this for a game of soldiers.
I have never looked back now for 5 decades. I am happier and free from sin, my conscience is clear, I suffer no guilt, I blame no-one for tragedies except those who are clearly responsible. I am not compelled to follow man made ritual and rites nor listen to peoples biased opinions, in order to attain so called eternal life.
I am ever grateful that I shed the burden of Christianity back in the fifties. Some may need religion, but I did not.

What I find odd is:- Why is religion so common in these enligtened days?

Many people have become disillusioned with religion and its part in wars and politics. People come to the conclusion that an all wise God wouldn't allow this to happen. People see so much injustice and suffering that it is easy to dismay God.

Once people read the Bible and see what it really teach about false religions they will find out that He is just and merciful. It is only a matter of time when He will, stand up for righteousness and rid mankind of it problems today (Daniel 2:44) and answer the Lord's prayer (Matthew 6:9,10). Hopefully people will accept Him (Psalms 83:18) before its too late.
