My mom is terminal with kidney cancer and was recently told that she is no longer treatable. We were told 2 weeks to 2 months as her time line. That was a month or so ago. I was talking on the phone with her last night and she started saying she was tired and she just had a feeling that it was coming soon. So I am wondering if you believe that the dying patient knows when they are going to die??

First of all - (((((hugs))))
I just lost my husband a week ago to melanoma cancer after a year long battle.

Yes, I think that people realize that their body is tired (as well as their spirit) of fighting the cancer.

Go to your Mom, hug her, tell her how much you appreciate all that she did for you, that you love her and will miss her and give her permission to go if she is too tired to keep fighting. Bring her anything that will bring a smile to her face - or simply sit with her holding her hand with gentle music playing in the background.

Dying is exhausting for all concerned. I hope your mother can go gently - for her sake and for yours.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I think generally yes, they obviously can feel their body becoming weaker and breaking down, but as to the exact day/moment they are going to die, probably not. By then they might be too weak or distorted to have rational thought. Best to be there with them as much as possible towards the end so you can see them off properly.

Yes. Some may share more than others. My husband talked to us a couple of days before he died about taking care of issues.
