Just this afternoon i went through a red light, although the green arrow was on to turn left. Instead of going left i went straight on. The traffic light had a little black box on top of the lights, will i get caught?

I don't know. You'll just have to sweat it out for the next few weeks to see if anything arrives in the post.

People in my town do it all the time and I'm sure they get away with it. It's almost as if they know which cameras work and don't work.

I got stopped by police when I was going through 2 sets of lights as they were turning red at 60 miles an hour. This was a very long time ago may I add. I'm older and wiser now.

They questioned me, took my details and said that a letter will be sent to me. I was a nervous wreck for the next few weeks. But nothing ever came. I only relaxed a year later.

Sorry I can't be of much help but you know what. Get your penalty, pay your fine and don't do it again.

Unlikely! The little black boxes on the top of traffic lights are for gauging the flow of traffic, not catching you jumping the lights. Next time you are driving at night and get close to red lights, try flashing your lights - sometimes that will trigger the little black box to change them to green for you!

I don't think so. The black box you saw is probably a sensor for pedestrians or stationary traffic.

If a speed or traffic light camera has got you, chances are you would've noticed a flash or even a double flash form either behind your car or possibly from in front.

I bet Gilly G drives a 4x4 thats too big for her and she gets in all sorts of trouble taking Tarquin & Britney to school and this makes her all bitter and twisted.

No I do not think so that is a detector of the approach of traffic. It is when your lights are on red and there is no traffic coming the other way. there is also a timing device within the system. The cameras are a different set up

Why dont u ring citizens advice, i no people who have been caught with a speed gun and citizens advice got involved so the fine was dropped, they might be able to help you aswell. I thought the black boxes on top where there just so the traffic lights no when there are people waiting.

It really is just the luck of the draw - sit tight and wait and see what happens, its very unlikely.

We recently had a new traffic systme installed on a roundabout and the layout of the lights very confusing - I drove through a red light and 3 months later havent heard anything.

As a general rule, gadgets that catch you (speed cameras, bus lane cameras) flash. If it didn't flash, you won't get a fine.

About 40 years ago, I accidentally drove through a red light in Birmingham and was flagged down by a policeman (on foot). He told me to park the car and have a rest before driving on. Bet that wouldn't happen now.

the chances are vey slim for the following reasons,
1. the gatso ( camera ) is a fake
2. the film in the gatso has ran out but the camera continues to flash.
3. your number plate may be outside the line of picture
if your that worried about what has happened you can write to the traffic department in the nearest police station and explain what has happened get a receipt for your letter and also keep a copy yourself.
if you get a summons dont pay it but opt to have your say in court
once the magistrate hears about your letter it wont defo get you off but will help your case and i would be surprised if you were prosecuted goodluck.
