Is that why Nintendo Wii is so popular and outselling the PS3.

It was a lot of bad business plan on Sony's part which is helping the Wii and MS sales.

To begin with, 600 price point is just a bad idea. From previous history, any console that starts off with more than 500 bucks is in for a battle. Neo-Geo and 3DO are 2 examples of a console that started off with more than 500 bucks and ended up being a total failure. It's not going to happen to the PS3.

Next, there's the shortage around launch. I think Sony said there would be 500,000 PS3 available for launch in North America, but I think NA only ended up with 200,000.

Third, there's the launch fiasco. A lot of stores were having fun with gamers looking to get a Wii. One store did a musical chair game to decide who would be the lucky owners of a PS3. Another store has people stand behind a line, and then an employee would open the door, and it becomes a mad rush to see who can get to the store to get a PS3. There were some shootings at a store, a college student got killed because someone wanted to take his 2 PS3, fights broke out when gamers couldn't get their hands on a PS3. In Boston, the major blamed Sony for causing the riot at Sony Style, and Sony took no responsibility.

Fourth, Sony got too cocky. But can you blame them. The PSX and PS2 are the only 2 consoles to sell over 100 million, so Sony believes that the PS3 would do the same, even at the 600 price point.

Finally, Nintendo is just a better advertising machine than Sony. Nintendo managed to get the casual gamer and the non-gamer to buy into the Wii.

It's not a matter of Sony becoming comfortable and lazy, it was a matter of they tried to do too much with the console, and people weren't ready for it. The PS3 is about as expensive as the 360, when you compare it all. The 360 had a year head-start that's why it's beating the PS3.

The Wii is beating the PS3 because of the price, and the fact that parents and grandparents want the kid-friendly system for their kids and grandkids.
The Wii's price is less than half that of the PS3 and 360, that's why it continues to outsell both consoles.
Take a look at the games for the Wii compared to the 360 and PS3, definately geared towards kids, Mario, Zelda, and other kid friendly titles, look at the 360's games, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo and the PS3s games, Uncharted, Killzone2, MGS4, Resistance not exactly kid-friendly games.

I don't think Sony has done everything it could as well as it could in the past year or so (especially in the PR dept.), but I don't think it could've competed with the phenomenal performance of the Wii, especially after the lacklustre showing of the Gamecube.
You'd probably expect both companies to say there consoles are targeted at different audiences too, with the PS3 geared towards a more tech-savvy adult-oriented market than the family/party friendly Wii.
I'd say Sony was taking its time getting the PS3 out, making sure it worked OK (unlike a certain MS product), safe in the knowledge that their older model is still selling very well.

If you want to know why anything happens in the USA just follow the money trail. The Wii and the Xbox 360 both have been out selling the PS3 because of price they are less expensive. And people will only justify so much for a game system, now that the PS3 is selling for less it is growing faster in sales and in europe is the #1 selling system this year and soon will be on top in the USA. People just don't have the sense to spend the dollars on the superior system (until the price drops).

Not true.
It's the pricetag. The Playstation 3 is a better made system than the Wii. The Wii is just a Gamecube with a new remote. The Playstation 3 and 360 are next-gen.
If people were not scared of spending money, they would realize the Wii is garbage and the PS3 is the best for the buck.

The Wii is outselling th PS3 because it's a more family oriented game system, plus it's brand new. There's nothing like it. I'm not sure about the PS3, how much they cost or anything. It is Blue Ray, so it may be more expensive? Other than the fact it's Blue Ray, there aren't many new features to it. That may be why.

The Wii is cheaper for casual gamers and kids, where they pay less for a system that is not that powerful and has party games, etc. Plus Wii has some neat exclusive titles. PS3 just doesnt yet have that many exclusive powerful titles that make it better than XBOX 360 (PS3 was hoping LAIR would be that game, but was doomed by bad controls, but they do have NINJA GAIDEN SIMGA & the new Drake's Fortune). They will come around in time, but they need to fix thier controller more in the style of the XBOX 360.....it's not very good.

Wii's are good for people with family's and children but they get very boring very quickly. The only reason the wii is outselling the ps3 is beacause it is so expensive.

I think the Wii is attracting a lot of new people to the casual gaming world, and it's cheaper than the PS3. I don't really think it's a matter of Sony becoming lazy.

Yea i think so. But wii is much cheaper than ps3, that's the best reason.
Sony biggest mistake is creating ps3 functioning as same as x-box 360. They're so alike. Im kinda disappointed but ps3 still great.
