I am just curious.
I hear a ton of people on this site (R&S) that say the person of Jesus was not real and never existed. His existence as a real human being is well documented by the record of History, even outside the Bible. As in the writings of Josephus and so on.
Also, why do people insist he was not Jewish?
His geneology is listed directly from Abraham to Joseph (his natural father). He was a direct descendant of King David; He was also a Rabbi.
Why do people claim he wasn't Jewish? Do they not like Jews? That bothers me.

by natural father - i just meant in terms of lineage. I do believe Jesus to be the Son of God; and God incarnate.
As for the writings, what i am refering to is 1st century writings, as in by people who lived around the same time Jesus did.
But i appreciate your opinions. :)

well there is no proof he lived
all the proof came years after he supposedly died now think for a minute there is a guy walking around raising dead healing the sick and had a huge following and defied the mighty roman empire
yet no one wrote about this until along time after it happened
odd dont you think?

Firstly I have to correct an earlier answer: Jesus was not mentioned in the Tanakh ('old' testament). Anyone who knows some Hebrew knows it is not Jesus being mentioned.
To the asker:
From what I've read on this site, most people know Jesus was Jewish. That said, yesterday someone asked if he was Muslim and gave 'best answer' to someone replying 'yes'!
Jesus was not, however a Rabbi. Nor was he a descendent of King David, from the Christian perspective, as of course his father is supposedly G-d. If Christians argue that he WAS the son of Joseph, then that means he can't also have been the son of G-d...!
Jesus lived and died as a practising Jew. He never said that Judaism was being replaced or set aside. G-d's covenant with the Jews is eternal; the only people today who follow the same faith as Jesus, are the Jews.
Anyone who claims that Jesus is mentioned in the Tanakh needs to check out http://www.whatjewsbelieve.org/

I've only said it's unclear if he existed. I find it pretty odd that he gets mentioned 20 years after the fact, and even then in passing, as someone called something like jesus might have done something.
I'd assume that a prophet that can mobilize thousands of people, and was considered a contender for the position of king would get mentioned more. Even without the miracles, and stuff. It's odd that they can dig up thousands of loveletters and pornography from those times, but no mention of the son of god.
I'm not disputing the claim altogther, it's quite possible that there was someone called jesus around that part of the world around that time... and he might have had some sort of a following.
If he did exist, it's likely he was jewish.
Does that clarify it any?

Many people are prejudices towards Jews and therefore do not like the idea that Jesus was a Jew. If you allow yourself to rewrite history or ignore scientific evidence you can think what you like.
--------------
Most people who do not believe in modern Christian teachings would say that an ordinary person called Jesus might have existed, but the water walking son of a supreme god is likely a mythic figure.
-------------
I believe the weight of evidence at the moment seems to be that Jesus was a real person but not as significant to early Christian community as we believe today.
If God exists and talks to prophets, then Jesus may have been a prophet but Mary Madeline may have been a more significant figure to the early "Christians" than Jesus, whilst Jesus was still alive.
I only know of one claimed account of Jesus by non-religious sources. (Josephus) a famous reporter of the times, supposedly gave a description of Jesus which was passed on to him by a Roman guard.
---------------------
People make up lots of things for lots of reasons. The ones you have suggested are quite likely but many other reasons might be generated.
----------------------
The historical Jesus was most likely a Jew from the House of David.
His mother Mary and Joseph possibly had other children. The bible is unclear as the term translated to "brother" might refer to refer to cousins or adopted friends. E.g. "brothers in Christ".
It is also possible that Jesus' mother may not have needed to be a virgin to mother the messiah because the early use of the term "maiden" was loosely used to refer to either a virgin or a youngish girl.

He is mentioned by Plinius Junior. He was a Jew, that does not bother me at all. Can you name a few people who say he was not a Jew?
All the stories that have been woven around him bother me sometimes, especially when they come from churches with loudspeakers.
His lineage differs from one gospel to the other one. Even that does not bother me. There is no proof that he was a descendant from King David. There is no proof he was a rabbi.

yay for my level 6! :-D
on the actual iissue... I think you will find that there is actually extremely little evidence of a historical Jesus. but this really is of minimal point, IMO.
>>"Otherwise, we'd all die."<<
ummm, sorry to break it to you but... psst! ... we do... you know those big fenced in areas with the grass and rocks with names carved in them? ...
Baptist, no, actually, he wasn't. there are a few spots that can be warped a little that might vaguely point in his direction, but the prophecys that are ACTUALLY about the messiah, Jesus did NOT fulfill.
some people who hate jews do not recognize Jesus having been jewish. but most who are ok with the jewish people are ok with jesus having been jewish.
whats "ironic" in a sense, is that to belive that Jesus, a being that had human form, is "god incarnate" or "the son of God"(as in, that we are not all children of God, but he is born of God or something) is by Jewish standards, idolotrous and/or polytheistic.
such belief is as contrary to Judaism and the God of Abraham as it can get.
this site might be interesting for some, it goes over why jews do not belive in jesus as the messiah.
(though, many jews belive that a historical jesus or figure that the jesus story was based on, did in fact exist historically)

I agree, people are playing with words and using technicalities.
Even if you don't agree in the miracles, that doesn't mean the person didn't exist.
If someone wrote a book about me after i died and said i could fly and blow up things with my mind....just because it isn't true doesn't mean i didn't exist. It could be 99% made up and it doesn't make me all of a sudden not exist.

Outside of the bible there is little evidence (and none of it uncontested) about his existence. Which is a tad strange for someone who allegedly caused such a stir, performed miracles and was executed by the authorities of the time.
But if he existed, he was definitely Jewish.

There is MUCH doubt. There is no credible evidence for his existence. Quote me a reliable and direct source that is not also written by the deluded and mistaken? How about something modern that shows the facts?
The Jewish element does not concern me. Deal with Part One first.
