Yes I think He did because that s what He taught.
Matthew 19:21 Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

Jesus abhorred currency.
30 pieces of silver did Judas get for Selling Jesus out.
He turned the money changers tables in the temple (or outside)
He said "Give your money to Rome." when he was offered it for on it was the head of Cease, the occupier of Israel.
He definitely helped the poor, but didn't believe money was the answer.
The story of Jesus saying "There will always be poor, but you do not always have me.”
Matthew 26:6-13
Mark 14:3-9
John 12:1-8
John
Chapter 12
1 Six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
2 They gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served, while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him.
3 Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus 2 and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
4 Then Judas the Iscariot, one (of) his disciples, and the one who would betray him, said,
5 "Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days' wages 3 and given to the poor?"
6 He said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief and held the money bag and used to steal the contributions.
7 So Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Let her keep this for the day of my burial. 4
8 You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me."

OMG - I agree with old guy on something!!!In actual fact if any christians were to follow the teachings of Jesus as they should be then would sell all their belongings and give the money to the poor.I asked this question a while back and only 1 person answered saying they had done it!Everyone else decided to take the Pick'N'Mix route and decided it wasn't relevant in today's times!!!

Absoulutely!
Jesus was talking to a rich man in this verse - Luke 18:22
Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
Jesus was rich or else why would the soldiers gamble over his clothes? I'm sure the soldiers woudn't want a poor man's clothing. Matthew 27:35
And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
2 Corinthians 8:9
For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
2 Corinthians 9:9
(As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.

Jesus believed you should help the poor, but I don't think in the form of money or handouts. I think he meant a larger commitment than that because he said "Give a man a fish and you have fed him for one day. Teach him how to fish, and you have fed him for life."

the concept isnt about giving money cash wasnt on hand in the sense you think, jesus simply meant you should give to poor the tired and the hungry as simply an act of human kindness if your cash as you see it is the only way you can help the less fortunate then give a little, he would not expect you to put yourself in a finacial burden ,if you can give of yourself to others in a mear helping hand physically or mentally such as i am doing for you now then you see i am giving to you my wealth just on a knowledge bases as to forking out a couple of bucks to you theres more to you and more that you can give then cash my friend....end the end you cant take anything with you so if your at that point then yes give it to who needs it most but always take care of family first......hope that helps......skipper

To one rich man, he said that if you want to be his follower, you have to sell everything you have, give the money to the poor, and THEN come follow.
Another time, he brushed off the poor (when Mary Magdalene poored the perfume on his feet). He said, "the poor will always be among you, but she has done what she could for me now..."

For starters, no where in the bible does God or Jesus state that a person must give all of their earnings to other people. Giving is important. But there is also a give an receive behind all that. The bible says, "give and it shall be given back to you in good measures".
Whatever Christ preached is what he meant.
Christ wanted to teach people how to live, according to God. God wants us to be wealthy. But wealth earned wrongly is wealth that will be lost. It is important to know where your priorities are. If you care too much about your riches to give a dime to the poor, but will load up on luxuries, it shows the greed of a person.
That is not Christ like. You may disagree about helping your fellow man before yourself, but that is not what Christ taught, and that is certainly not what I believe. My life is comfortable. But I always have something to give, even if it isn't much, and I believe it should be given. No one is forcing you to give up your money. But people should not be left behind and forgotten.
Love your neighbor as yourself. You can agree or disagree.

I don't think it has to be money. Just helping those less fortunate is something. It's not just Jesus, any religion will preach that you should help the less fortunate.
