Hi everyone.

The company i worked at was purchesed abroad and as a result, my contract was not renewed.

Recently i moved in with my girl and we pay 450 rent and 250 council tax this month, however, now i have lost my wage until i find new work (which im actively seeking), i decided to apply for JSA.

Yesterday i went to sign on and i was told that after 3 weeks of waiting, that i am not entitled to JSA and instead i would get national insurance credits.

I have no idea where to go with this, 250 is coming out 2moro so that leaves me and my girl with 250 quid left to live on, but bills etc will soon chip that away.

Am i entitled to any money? I waited 4 weeks exactly to be told i aint getting anything so a poor christmas aside.... is there anything i can do to have help?

Housing Benefit and Council Tax benefit is handed in which will take 5 weeks, and on top of that, the tax credits form will take just as long.

Im really stuck here so id appreciate your help. Who to talk to etc?

There are two types of JSA - Income based (which as others have said depends on whole household income i.e. including your GF wages - and any Savings you might have) and 'Entitlement' based.

You should get up to 6 months 'Entitlement' JSA so long as you paid at least the 2 past tax years (continuous) 'normal' (class 1 ??) NI ... (if you have been a self-employed Contractor maybe you have not been paying full NI for the full 2 years ???)

Have a look at the letter - there is an "Appeals" process - ring them up & talk to them ..

You need to apply for JSA contribution based because i expect your partner is earning. If she isnt then DWP have got it wrong

Contact local authority ASAP and ask them to speed up your claim and refrain from council tax recovery until they have processed your entitlement.......

Tax credts are payable if a working person is over 25 and works 30 hours or more each week....or over 16 working 16 hours or more and has a child under 16.....If your household fits into any of these criterias contact Inland Revenue and ask for an interim payment

If niether of you have any funds available at this oment contact DWP and ask for a crisis loan

If your girlfriend works then no you're not entitled to JSA

with regards to council and housing benefit, you wont get that either unless your girlfriend is on quite a low income.
If you are accepted the money will be backdated from the day you claimed

if you girlfriend is working then no you cant get JSA, i'm afraid to say that unless you have kids you probably wont get any taxcredits either, let alone housing benefit, if she isnt working but is claiming on her own then the way forward is to make a joint claim, if you do that straight away your money should go through fairly quickly, because your girlfriend is alreaedy on the system.....i hope this helps, let us know any more details if you can, like is your girlfriend working etc etc good luck mate

When my husband lost his job, he didn't bother signing on, as he wasn't entitled to anything, because I was working. I couldn't get any benefits. The one thing I did recieve was working tax credits. Maybe if you pretended you couldn't speak English, you might stand a chance. Good luck.

to start with job seeker allowance is usually on £45.00 a fortnight so you are not losing that much. however you will not get your national insurance contributions paid for if you do not get job seekers allowance so if you can either pay it in stamps if you can (i am not sure if you can) or you will get a bill for all of the missed contributions when you get a job again.

sorry you lost your job and good luck.
