Why do some people feel free to try evangelise others when they have have little or no research or understanding of things outside their limited square of knowledge?

Eg. some fundamentalists like to refer to the 10 commandments in condemning/judging others, without even knowing there are 300+ MORE commandments Moses received at Mount Sinai during his 40 days up there. They also don't fully understand how or why the 10 commandments were applied because they don't know what the Talmud taught or even know what the Talmud is. Then they say they understand the Old Testament (which is entirely Jewish), without knowing they interpret it fundamentally different from the original Jewish writters (eg. many Christians don't even realise that no Jews believe in eternal hell and it's never been part of Jewish teaching).

So if someone claims to know what fate awaits others, why is it so hard to RESEARCH first before condemning others?

I will start out by saying I am an atheist. However, I do know that there are different levels of research and different degrees of expertise. You sound like a person who has done a significant amount of research to obtain the knowledge you now have and can get down to finite detail when it comes to the holy bible. So from your vantage point everyone else more or less seems dumber, and rightly so. But, the majority of people who have done research haven't gone as in depth as you have, although that is not to say that they haven't researched or that they haven't worked hard and spent loads of time researching. They just aren't up to your level, and maybe that causes them to smudge over a few things that you would not have smudged over. I think that if they were preaching to you they would sound like total morons. But I do believe that the people you are referring to have a sufficient amount of knowledge and have done a sufficient amount of research to qualify them to talk about it in audiences that know an equal or lesser amount than they do. So they would qualify in my opinion to debate the subject and to write, preach, etcetera about what they know to those who know less than they do. It is all relative, and ultimately there is always someone out there smarter on any given subject than you are. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't talk or preach what information you do have.

Oh, but I don't think that anyone has the right to condemn others. That's distasteful no matter who you are.

Hi there,

Let me try and help here.

Number one you don't research the Bible before you met the Author of the Bible and that is Jesus Christ. In other words you must be born again.

To a person that is not born again the Bible is a close book and will not be understood, untill the Holy Spirit enterpret it.

1. You must be born again: John 3: 1-16
2. 1 Cor 13 and Matthew 22:37 – 40) forfills the 10 Commandments.

1 Corinthians
Chapter 13
1
1 If I speak in human and angelic tongues 2 but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
2
And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.
3
If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4
3 Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated,
5
it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,
6
it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.
7
It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Jesus said to him, “‘you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
(Matthew 22:37 – 40)

So if you love your neighbor you will do him no harm in any way. So LOVE is the forfullment of the Law.

Information on the 10 Commandments

For obeying the 10 Commandments, we are promised blessings, see:
Deut 11:26-27.

"Behold, I set before you a blessing, and a curse:
"The blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your
God ...

If somebody have not had a life changing experience by making Jesus Christ Lord and Saviour of their lives, the letter is dead and he/she cannot successfully preach the Gospel.

I think it's because people want to know that other people believe in the same thing they believe in. It leaves out the awkwardness of encountering someone who really does NOT believe in what the evangelist believes.

Research is an extremely important tool that must be utilized in a religion, I agree, before evangelizing that religion. That tends to be the case. For example:

Many Christians believe that God created the humans first when it clearly states in the Bible that "a great number of birds and sea creatures" was created first.

As the answerer underneath me says, many people disregard the truth, reason, and research a lot when dealing with their own faith in their beliefs. And as you say above in the description, you are entirely right. Those 300+ commandments, in fact, could have been taken from the old Egyptian religion when one of the god's spoke saying, "I have not killed," or "I have not stolen," and so on. Look it up. =]

It's called opinions and every one has an opinion.
In many ways that is what Christianity is based on, I know this because almost every one you know at some point wants to give you a description of something the bible says then what it means.
The same verse in the bible can mean different things to different people depending on how you interpret.

I can imagine that most people just hear about something and give an opinion. That's how they rationalize that their bible is the right one, and they alone are the ones who have it right and are going to heaven.

It's my understanding that they are taught in seminaries the truth and told to withhold it for obvious reason . And this was also the the stance of the early innovators of the Jewish faith .
What is promulgated to the people is not the full story understood by the leaders. they have convincing arguements to justified this twofaced approach but I believe time has unraveled them to a discernable degree.

Well, there are 613 laws according to the Jewish teachers, and the Talmud is simply commentary on the Torah. It is that commentary that Jesus said to the Jews, "With your traditions you nulify the truth of God." As Christians we don't accept Talmud or the teachigs of the Rabbi, unless they are accurate to Scripture.

"Hell" appears 31 times in the Old Testament.

One example:

Deu 32:22 For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.

It's real alright - believe it or not.

There is one and only one purpose to scripture. that purpose is not to take us to Jesus or GOD, it is to awaken us to The Spirit of Truth within us. we must learn how to tell the difference between The Spirit of Truth and the spirit of confusion. The Spirit of Truth is all about satisfying our needs. the better our needs are satisfied the less power temptation has over us. Think about it. Are you full?

Thats a damn good statement. I love quoting Spurgeon here "How can you stand and argue for the truth if you havent studied and known both sides of the controversy? But that also lies and stays concommitant to the Word of God."

Didn't you know? Everyone is an expert these days, and everyone's opinion holds the same weight, despite differences in education and background.
