my cat kiki is about 5, we just got our christmas tree today but she has been throwing up since yesterday night, about. she keeps making gagging noises and when she does ACTUALLY puke its sort of white foamy stuff floating in saliva. i dont think she has a hairball, and she's been sitting in weird places seeming weak and is making meows like shes crying or hurt and they're more higher. she is spayed but she does have fleas, we've tried certain medicenes each month but she still has them, haven't used it on her recently though. plus she needs to be de-wormed. can anybody help me with this problem? should i take her to the vet & what would they do and how much would it cost?

You have several danger signs here and I don't usually answer these questions with 'vet now' and lots of exclamation points, but I almost did with this one. Instead, I am going to give you some things to check with her. Using these signs, you can decide if you need to get Kiki to the vet tonight or tomorrow.

The white foam is from extreme nausea. This tells me she hasn't eaten for at least a day. What is causing that nausea will have to be determined by the vet.

You say she is refusing food, by doing this she is telling you something is wrong. The high pitched meows are another clue.

Is she drinking? From the other symptoms, I am going to guess not. She will become dehydrated quickly, if she isn't already. Check her for dehydration. Pull up the skin on her back at the neck. If it snaps back into place, that's good. If it eases back into place, she is becoming dehydrated. If it stays tented, this is an emergency and with the other symptons, consider the vet visit tonight.

Uncontrolled flea problem. With her other symptions, I am afraid she is or will become anemic. You can check for that by looking at her gums. They should be moist and pink. If they are white or pale, consider the vet visit tonight.

Intestinal parasites. She has probably gotten the worms from the fleas. These worms attack the gastrointestinal tract and if the infestation is bad enough, can lower her immune system to the point of death.

I know it is Christmas and money is tight. There is a credit card just for medical expenses, including veterinary, called Care Credit. My cats' routine expenses are in the budget, but my Care Credit has saved me many times for the surprises. I have attached the link. You can see if your vet or a vet in the area accepts it and apply online.

Purrs to you and Kiki.

I agree w/the other answers, obviously, that she should be taken to a vet ASAP. Until that point, something else that you should try is a hairball salve. I know that you don't think that it's a hairball (& you very well might be right), but you shouldn't difinitively rule that out. Is your cat overweight? Has it had any allergy or breathing issues in the past?

The reason I ask is because I've seen more than one cat that have had allergies which have caused their esophagus & bronchial tissues to become swollen & causing their hairballs to become stuck & even backed up, like a bathtub drain for lack of a better metaphore. Is your cat going to the catbox regularly? It could also be a stool backup which would cause discomfort & a reluctance to eat. An x-ray would be needed to determine both of these, however educated hands might be able to feel a fecal backup.

Either way, anytime a cat refuses to eat, you've got a problem that needs medical attention. I would suggest calling your local vet, explaining your financial situation & see what kind of price & payment arrangements you could come to. Call more than one vet, be polite but persistant & make sure you stress the degree of your concerns. Most vets are in the biz because of their big hearts & love for animals in general so I think you might be surprised.

good luck with kiki.

Have you recently treated the cat or dogs with flea drops or anything like that? my cat tries to lick the stuff off and foams at the mouth afterwards and rubs it's chin on stuff... maybe it's eaten something that doesn't agree with it and is trying to get rid of the taste... a bit like if you eat something really sour, your mouth waters to help flush the taste away.. keep an eye on it, give it fresh water to drink and if it keeps on for more than another hour phone a vet just to be safe. Hope this helps

You do need to take her to a vet, since she's obviously ill. We can't tell you how much it would cost, since we don't know what the problem is - one thing's for sure, it will get more expensive the longer you leave it! At the moment it might just be a case of some meds.

While you're at the vets, pick up some proper flea treatment - Frontline, Advantage, Revolution or Advocate.

Take him to a vet, I can think of a few possibilities that range from nothing much to potentially fatal. But not one of them can be diagnosed without running tests. And nobody can run tests over the internet

The vet should run tests and give you meds, it shouldn't cost much more than 100 bucks, for the check up and the tests and the meds

no matter what you do taking her to the vet will cost a bit anything from 20$ to lets say 200$ incase she runs high. what you should do is, i know its gross but look at her poop and see if its different from before or if it has something in it. you can feed her grass to make her throw up. grass as in what grows outside on your yard. unless of course your in mexcio. this will help her puke. make sure she drinks lots of water. you can buy something that makes you throw up. but you should really get that kitty to a vet your worried and she's sick. good luck and happy trails

TAKE HER TO THE VET. I can't say what's wrong - it sounds like it might be poisoning, but I'm not a vet - but there's something VERY bad going on with her.

Cost is going to depend on what they have to do to help her.

I know this was a long time ago but my cat is having the exact same problems right now. I was wondering what the result was, if she was okay.
