This year I will be helping a cat rescue center microchip and find homes for stray cats. I need some cat names there will be over 1000 cats. So please give me the name and the meaning. Both male and female names.
I have already named the first two.
For example;
Eylul: September
Reyhan: Basil
Alara: Holy Child

Since I usually post in the Turkish section. I chose Turkish, but any name from any country will do. Plus I did think it would help me increase my Turkish Vocabulary.

Ok..
Since we don't prefer to use many Turkish names as pet names- most of them are religion related and people believe it is being "rude" , I don't know why..- There isn't really a big selection of Turkish per names and some of them are really stupid ones like naming a white cat Ayran ( Buttermilk- sorrrry Blunt :P)
I will list a few anyway :
PRENS - PRENCES = Prince and Princess
ASIL = Noble
AYKIZ = Girl who looks like the moon
AZMAN - Giant
BALIM = My Honey
BALKIZ = Girl looks like honey
BENEKLI= The Dotted-spotted one
CICEK = Flower
DELIKIZ = Crazy Girl :)
DUMAN = Smoke- Smokey
EJDER = Dragon
ELMAS= Diamond
ESKIYA = Bandit
FINDIK = Hazelnut
FISTIK = Peanut ( Beautiful girl in slang )
GARIP = The poor one ( usually for stray animals)
GUMUS = Silver
GULUS =Smile
GUNES = Sun
INCI = Pearl
IPEK= Silk - aheemm :P
KADIFE = Velvet
KAPLAN = Tiger
KARA= Black
KARADUT = Black Berry
KARBEYAZ= Snow white
KARTOPU = Snow Ball
KIZIM = My Girl
KIMYON = Cumin
MAVIS = The Blue eyed one
MELEK = Angel
MERCAN= Coral
MENEKSE = Violet
MINIK = Small one
MINNOS = Small one
MISKIN = Lazy
NARIN= Tender- Gentle
NILUFER = Water Lilly

SARIKIZ= Blond Girl
SEDEF = Mother of Pearl

UYSAL= Calm (one)
YAKUT = Ruby
ZUMRUT = Emerald
Those are the ones that I like but if you are going to name a cat with one, please contact me so I can help with pronounciation .

I had a stray once that I named Skeezix. He's a character from ' Gasoline Alley', a newspaper comic that has been running since the 1920's. Skeezix was left on his adoptive father's doorstep in a basket as a baby.

Let me tell you the cats I have named in the past. Some names belong to the same cat, evolving in time. :)
Zeliş (a lady like she-cat, name transformed from a female name) (Zeh-lish)
Cecü (long story, but transformed from a male name into a cat name) (Ge like in general -gü ü like in über)
Mii-mii (Meee-meee - name given by a baby to a baby cat)
Marru (mar-rooo) imitating the voice of a cat
Aragorn aka Timsah (crocodile -Tim-sach but ach with harsh h, not k) aka Kocapisi (giant pissy - c like the g in general)
Kısmet aka Vampirella aka Minipisi (yes, like you guess :) )
I suggest you find a Turkish dictionary. Some words make really good sounding names. You can go with traditional names, too:
Sarman (for yellows), Tekir (tabby), Kara (for blacks), Pamuk (cotton - for whites), Alaca (for colourful ones).
Oh, and we don't give animals people names. Some do, but we generally refrain from it, thinking somebody may hear and get hurt.
Edit: Ayran for a white cat sounds quite delicious, Ipek. :)
Edit 2: Bendir nekine?
Edit 3: OMG. If I didn't develop cross-eye syndrome without even knowing it, I see an instrument called Cemil. Now, that was a nice one. Thanks. :DDD

There are so many names, and I wonder why you want turkish names only. This center is located in Turkey?
Some names I already gave to some cats were, for example :
Boncuk ( pronounced "bondjook") : pearl
Pehlivan : wrestler.
In general I prefer to give them human french firstnames ( don't ask me why, he he he ).
