The quality control on Taurus pistols & revolvers has really improved in the last ten years or so. S & W however, is still a top-notch revolver that has more appeal & re-sale value. I would go with the Model 15 which is basically a Model 10 (around since the turn of the last Century) with adjustible rear sights. With the Model 15 you have a high quality, extremely utilitarian defensive revolver in an adequate caliber. Straight .38s are getting harder to find since everyone opts for a .357 Magnum which also fires .38s. Down the road that fact alone could add collector's interest to your S & W.
Best.

Before you decide on either look at the Ruger SP101 and the GP100 models. They are handguns of excellent quality and in my opinion a better value than the Smith & Wesson and a much better value than the Tarus. AND consider the .357 caliber as it will also chamber and fire the S&W .38 special.

All around and ALL about, the Smith & Wesson is the BEST!! I got that one and it is GREAT! EVERYTHING about it is NICE! there is too much to say and rave about it! I would get the 15 38 Special! Enjoy! You rock GOOD taste in guns!

The best choice for your purpose is the 357 Magnum, because you can also shoot 38"s in it.* You get two (2)* handguns for the price of one (1)*.. It also is a proven man stopper.* Great value, more practical & wise.*

While S&W is by far the better weapon, plz don't you or anyone else forget that S&W was the first to fold to the anti-gun crowd and stopped making civilian guns for a while, I will NEVER buy another S&W product.
