or would consider it to be the only way for a rational and reasonable person to perform irrational and unreasonable acts? If you think it is a virtue, I ask you this: would you do anything for your God?

"smart cookie"- thanks for defining those words for me. You forgot to define "do" "you" "consider" "to" "be" and "a" as well... oh and you forgot to answer the question. Try harder to live up to your name next time.

LOL

If faith is a virtue, then stupidity must be as well.

To solarius... NONE of thoughts that pop into your head are the voice of God. Get real. Start being honest with yourself.

I'm religious, but I don't necessarily believe that faith is a virtue. Some people have absolute faith in their racism, misogyny, or violence. Their faith, strong though it may be, doesn't make them right. Would I do anything for God? That would depend upon whether I felt that it was genuinely God telling me to do something, or my own psyche. If I suddenly got the notion that God was asking me to go on a killing spree, no, I wouldn't do that. I'd try to find out where such ideas were actually coming from. Not every random thought that pops into my head is the voice of God.

I wouldn't call faith a virtue, people can be blinded by it. Imagine thinking that you would do anything for the god you believed in, that's dangerous as it allows people to act irrationally. There are many virtues, but faith is not one of them!

No, I do not consider faith to be a virtue. Neither do I consider it to be a vice. And faith does not mean "blind acceptance." I have heard a lot of people make that mistake lately. Faith is simple comviction, and can be informed, rational, irrational, or ignorant. We have faith that the earth goes around the sun. And faith really has nothing to do with acts performed in the name of God. That usually falls under the category of "zeal" or "ferver," but certainly not faith.

Faith is more of a mindset or a discipline. Like other intangibles--love being a prominent example--it may lead you to behave virtuously. Doesn't always.

We generally use the words "irrational" and "unreasonable" in a pejorative way, and that's not called for in this case. Faith isn't the enemy of reason and rationality. It exists as a separate experience. Plenty of rational, reasonable people also have faith. Faith allows you to believe your significant other isn't cheating on you without constantly seeking proof of fidelity. Pure rationality in a relationship leads to charming behaviors like hacking your significant other's email account to see if he or she is keeping in touch with any exes.

Faith is a tree which brings the fruit of all virtue. Without faith your good deeds are worthless and wont be rewarded.

My God has given me senses and ability to think. I would do which is required of me.

virtue, would I do anything for God it would be hard but everyday I pray that he will give me the strenght to do His will. God has done so much in my life that I would not turn my back on Him. I am so inlove with Him. call me crazy or dumb. But GOD has provin himself time and time again in the 12 years that I have been serving HIM. I pray and hope that every one gets the same oppertunity that I got to see Him do miracles in my life.

faith is a matter of gut feeling. no one can bring it about in you not is it based on logic. virtue is a decision of choosing right over wrong.
