Everyone seems to forget that the histories of the United States and Canada are quite interlinked. Things have become far more peaceful once the Maine and Oregon boundary disputes (I presume nobody remembers "fifty-four forty or fight?") were settled at the conference table. The same threats apply to both nation-states; Islamic insurgents had planned a putsch for Toronto, but the Mounties shut it down at the eleventh hour.
Both had their share of problems with London under George III R. The Quebec Government Act of 1774 was considered a reasonable measure at the time in the Parliament, given the high proportion of French nationals in that province--much to the consternation of English Canadians and New Englanders alike; the English Canadians weren't saddled with the blockade Parliament ordered via the Boston Harbor Quarrantine Act and further tightened in the Massachusetts Bay Government Act and the Massachusetts Bay Administration of Justice Act of 1775. I actually object to an American coup d'etat in Ontario, as it would bring a parasitic war to North America (Great Britain, Australia, &c. being compelled to aid the Canadians in the event of such war) and give the common enemy--Islam--the perfect strategic opportunity to seize control of all the Americas. (Personally, I see Hugo Chavez actually signing his own death warrant by bringing al-Qaeda into Venezuela; to the Muslim, Chavez is just another misbeliever.)

First off why would we want canada? Nothing special at all. & yeah it would be nice to look at a map or a globe & see the whole of North America the untied states but that would be too much for defense unless wewent straight empire & I think that would be cool but also highly unlikely & for the most part impractical. Also, for those canadians that think you wooped are buts in the war of 1812, your school system lied to you, no one won & just cause you burned our capital doesnt count considering we raized your capital first, well the british candain one. & also that was when we were a new nation with a crumy army & we didnt get pushed out of canada there was a treaty signed that just stopped the fighting. Also if we chose to militarly take or just mess up canada, we would destroy you & you know it, you could have the whole EU help you & we would still win. why? lots of money & technology & the second largest active military in the world. Or we could just have our cavilian poulation run over the boarder & start shooting, its not l,ike we dont have enough guns & people willing to use em. But I got no beef with canada, just dont hink your all that when it wasnt canadains that fouyght in that war it was the british.

Your question sort of answers itself. It is "Why doesn't the USA just take over Canada?" From studies which use big words that you don't have to trouble your empty head about indicate(that is shows) that most American's can't find Canada on a map and couldn't read the instructions to figure the map out. I kept this simple but I'm sure that you village has a "wise" man who can help you with the hard words.

1. We don't really need or want it.
2. The Canadians don't need or want to be part of the U.S.
3. Canada, through the years, has been one of the best neighbors and friends the United States could have wanted. To a lesser extent Mexico has also been a friend, and we are far better off with these countries as friends than we would be with a longer border or coastline to defend.

America is in that process...well wait, We The People ARE NOT, but look at spp(dot)gov and find out that yes, we are headed toward a North American Union. We can stop this by voting for Ron Paul and returning to the Constitution. Americans are cool with Canadians and Canadians are cool with Americans. What's not cool is making a NAU similar to the European Union. This is bad for Americans, Canadians and Mexicans. Peace in '08!

Hmm... this economy will have a recession in 2009. That will lead to a three country partnership called the North American Union(USA, CA, MEX). We will have ameros for money.

We don't want to.
We like Canada.
Canadians are, mostly, good people.
Many Americans have family in Canada; we don't want to fight our families.
I have cousins in Canada; I really don't want to fight with them, they are very tough customers!
Fighting a war on Canadian soil detroys or neighbors homeland and puts us at the disadvantage. Bad
Fighting a war with Canada on our soil detroys our land and puts Canada at the disadvantage. Good.
Either way, we both lose.
