Okay, I got my man a 60gb PS3 for Christmas. I already picked up 3 games, an extra controller, and the HDMI cable. Is there anything else I should look into getting for it so we won't have to run out to walmart Christmas day?
also, any good game titles would be much appreciated

one more thing... would you want it hooked up to the tv already or would you want to open it? I'm debating on hooking it up for him so he won't have to. I have other things for him so he will get to open other items on Christmas day.

My God, it seems like you have everything that you need. You've got the HDTV, you bought the games, you picked up the extra controller, I think that you have everything that he will need. If he will play games online, a Bluetooth headset would be good, but other than that you've got everything.
Oh yea, I think that it would be best if you let him open the PS3. There's just nothing like opening the PS3 for the first time. It will be a lot more enjoyable if you let him unbox the PS3.
Also, a few games that I recommend are: Resistance Fall of Man, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Heavenly Sword, and Warhawk. These are all great games.

You might want to buy a bluetooth or USB headset and games, other than that, that's all you need. (If you have an HD TV that can display 1080p get an HDMI cable)
If I were you I would open it up, hook it up, and get it ready for Christmas day to play games.

you should get a blue tooth mouse and key board a wired 1 works the same, but trust me it makes life a lot more easier to type. for my ps3 i got a blue tooth headset, the playstation eye camera, mouse and keyboard, i would suggest getting those things if u like to chat with your friends like i do. and if your a FREAK like me get a case for your ps3, i dont let any one touch it, so far no finger prints on mine. some games i would suggest would be Assassins Creed - a must have, warhawk - comes with blue tooth headset (but only an online game), The darkness- really fun game for ps3 so far my favourite First person shooter, Heavenly Sword - i dont actually have this game but try out the demo downlaod it from the ps3 store, and Uncharted - beautiful, amazing game
