The safest way to gain weight is to increase weight gradually, by monitoring the calorie intake and calories burnt during daily activities.Proteins are required for building muscles, so having high protein foods like eggs, milk, peanut butter, protein shakes will help.

that depends on the kind of weight you want to gain. Why do first year college students gain weight? They eat, study, sleep, drink beer, eat pizza, blah, blah, blah. Burn fewer calories by sitting around doing nothing, and eat while you're doing it.
But if you want to put muscle on, you need to eat, sleep and weight train. Add some protein to your diet, but don't obsess on protein. Try to have a good diet, but good diets won't necessarily make you gain weight. They just make you healthier. EAT, and go hit the weights. Sleep, and then do it all over again the next day. And then the next day!

Eat lots of fast food while sitting on your @$$ and watching TV.
You're guaranteed to gain weight if you do that.
If you want to gain something other than fat then you need to work at it. The first thing is you need to up the protein intake. Then you need to start lifting weights. You'll bulk up if you do this.
