Life expectancies are based on averages, so the life expectancies don't really mean a whole lot for any given individual because you don't know ahead of time where a person fits within the range of values. According to the CDC, in the US, a completely healthy person 74 years old has an average life expectancy of 13 years. Women are slightly higher and men slightly lower. End stage renal failure reduces the average life expectancy of a person 74 years old to around 5 years, but 20-30% live 10 years or more. What seems to matter the most is not the averages but a person"s outlook, lifestyle, and general health.
