Should be 18, I agree with the others, if you can die for this country at 18, then you oughta be able to raise a toast to yourself at 18!
Even if that means dramatically increasing punishment for drunk driving (which is insanely wrong!)
I think you and i need to discuss this topic with some politicians over a nice bottle of Vodka!!!

It was 21 up until 1974, then it was moved to 18. Its was then moved back to 21 in the 90's. And I don't think we will ever see it at 18 again.
That old argument about the military is no longer going to work because when the age was lowered there was a draft and most young men (not women) were drafted.
So chin up. If you are under 21 and you want to drink, you will find a way. I know we did.
I'll just leave it there

I would say 19. I think 21 is too old. You are an adult - you can work, live on your own, vote and serve in the ,military. Yet 18 is just a bit too young.
I think 19 is a good choice because it make it so there will be very few high school seniors that can drink legally, making somewhat harder fro high school kids in general to get alcohol.

At age 18, you can join the military and fight in wars and vote for president, but not drink until age 21.
Does that make sense?

Even though a lot of people start at 18 i believe 21 because I think even though most are mature i think your first drink or drinks should be when u r more sophisticated because u could get out of control.

Probably doesn't make a difference, since most people start drinking before 18 anyway.
Mommain04 is right, if you're old enough to fight and die for your country, you should be allowed to have a drink.

I like 18. I just got back from Europe and the people there have a totally relaxed attitude about alcohol. Some places even all 16 year-olds to buy it in grocery stores. It would really cut down on underage abuse if it was not viewed as a forbidden fruit.

honestly, i think it should be raised to 25. lots of accidents and deaths happen due to underage drinking, and also deaths related to college hazing in the age 21 group. 25 would make it illegal for most college students to drink. i certainly was not old enough when I was 18 to drink. i really wasn't mature enough.
BTW Mike B is incorrect about the return to 21 in the 90s...it happened in 1984.
