Let me tell you a little story.

Once upon a time, when I was in Africa, I told my companion's young daughter that we came from fish. When she looked skeptical, I explained:

"Look, you're just like a fish. You have two eyes -- two nostrils -- a brain -- braincase -- spinal cord -- vertebrae -- ribs -- heart -- stomach -- liver -- kidney -- spleen -- pancreas. Fish have all those things. So we're from fish."

She pondered this for a moment and said, "Maybe... fish are from us."

What do you think she meant by that?

She's a kid, a creative thinker - no reason for her not to stand your logic on her head. There was no progressive element in the over simplified explanation you gave her.

She was probably thinking how can a human come from such a tiny thing. Makes more since fish came from us

Truth from the mouths of babes.
They do have an innocent, and interesting, perspective.

She didn't mean anything by it. She was just trying to be nice.
