How does XM Satellite play through your radio and come out your speakers? Is there something special you have to buy to hook it in, or does it go in the back of your CD player?

Simple it is just a FM transmitter and your radio receives the FM station. So technically you are not getting digital quality.

You usually buy a kit, the antenna is placed outside of the car on the roof. You mount the little XM transmitter on your dashboard, then set your car radio to say 89.1FM or a station that is available in your area. That's it.

The ones that I see convert the XM signal to a stereo channel that your car stereo picks up

You have to subscribe to the service and make sure that your car is XM ready, if not, you can get an adapter. I have it and really like it.
