Factory alarm. Keyless entry works but key wont start car. When I stick my key in, all the interior lights go out and then the key fob no longer can lock/unlock the doors. Then to make it work again, I have to d/c the battery, wait over night, then connect the batery. I've tried locking and unlocking with the key fob, get in car, close the doors, and then try to start the car, but everytime the immobiliser kicks in, and theunlock/lock doesnt work on my key fob or the drivers door buttons. They just make a lot of clicking noises, while the alarm LED goes crazy. I tried taking out the relay and the fuse in the engine compartment boxes, but it doesnt help. I guess the kill switch is on. I dont know how to turn it off or bypass it.

I thought about reprogramming my key but not sure if that would work. Would resetting the ECU do anything?

Thanks John Paul. I will try that. My battery is brand new, I went to Costco to buy a new one b/c that's what I thought I needed at first. I know it is the security device b/c it clicks like crazy when I hit the lock or unlock on the key fob.

p.s. An oldie is a goodie often times.

It didnt work. Could you elaborate more John on it? It was kind of hard following th directions. But the key fob doesnt even respond anymore. I tried reprogramming it by
1. getting in, lockng the doors.
2. put key in and out 6 times within 15 seconds.
3. pull key out
4. put key into ACC
5. press lock on my door control panel, and then press lock on my keyfob.
6. go outside and it works.

well it worked when i first bought the replacement key fob a few years back. but now it wont work b/c even the door control panel doesnt respond to the alarm anymore. it wont lock/unlock the doors. the security light just blinks a lot and i hear clicking noises.

now when i put the key into ACC or ON, I just hear a bunch of beeps from the alarm or somewhere.

I just want to disable the stupid thing. I dont know if I can still keep my keyless entry feature. This is badddd. I might have to listen to the dealership guy and have it towed in.

Are you sure you do not have a problem with your battery (how old is it), or corroded battery terminals or cable? Sounds like weak or intermittant power if interior lights go out. That would explain the fob and locks not working at that point. A voltmeter could confirm that.

I have a 95 SE (purchased May 94), and at some point had to jiggle the ignition switch to get the engine to crank, and eventually replaced the ignition switch (which did NOT require a key change).

Professional advice turn the outside door lock to unlock and hold it for 2 seconds then get in and start the car do not use the key fob at this time. Drs door lock and trunk key lock can arm and disarm the security system. Now get out and arm the system drs window down by turning and holding the drs lock to lock 2 seconds security light turns on and should start flashing slowly after 45 seconds system armed reach in and manually unlock and open the drivers door and set off the alarm and turn the alarm off by turning the trunk key to unlock 2 seconds or drivers door 2 seconds lock turn... your car sounds as if the alarm has gone off and won't allow you to start the car.. Next use the key fob and see if the security light also flashes. watch all the power locks for full travel. The maxima system is complex but old like me Nissan Techs know that system.
