For answerer numero 2, i do that already for deer hunting. my family are die-hard hunters and we go from day break to night-fall. i used to get bored with just sitting there and having to be quiet, but now i dont mind it at all.

Correction means with the use of glasses or contact lenses.
Here are the corrected vision standards for enlistment into the armed forces:
20/20 in the better eye. 20/400 in the other.
20/30 in the better eye. 20/100 in the other.
20/40 in the better eye. 20/70 in the other.
Refractive index cannot exceed plus or minus eight diopters of refractive error.
Those are just for enlistment. Sniper school may have even more stringent standards requiring corrrection to 20/20 in both eyes, without an excessive refractive error.
But, before you even think of sniper training, do yourself a favor. Take one complete day on some weekend. Go to some remote area and sit on a hill (by yourself) overlooking some territory. Bring only food you can eat without making noise or without heating it. Try to spend at least two-three hours of doing nothing but staring at some distant point.
That's what snipers do. 99.9% "hurry up and wait" and less than one percent of taking any action against any target. It's a very boring and mind-numbing military exercise.
I marvel at how many questioners all want to be snipers, rangers or Navy SEALS. I gave you that little "drill" to do because most of you watch too many movies and play too many video games to understand what it is you desire.

It doesn't matter if it is glasses or lasic, as long as you can read the 20/20 line on the eye chart.

Wearing contacts in a field unit is a stupid thing to do. You will end up with an eye infection or a lost lens before you finish basic training.

Pilots are not allowed to have eye correction through lasic because the gee forces can rupture the eye.

Yeah, wearing glasses to bring you down to 20/20 isn't going to get you in Sniper school. It needs to have been corrected so that without any other aid to your eyes you have 20/20 vision.

Note: Or better...

They have a procedure to correct you to 20/20. The military will pay for it. I looked into it but did not have enough time to be able to use take advantage of it.

Apply for a job in the millitary just like you said. You can do many other things besides being in the field. The national guard would be a good option for you. As far as ranks go i am not sure. Not having a college degree will hinder how high you can rank in any xase though.
