Ok...first...if you have an Xbox 360...you HAVE to upgrade to HD. It is amazing how good it looks on the proper screen if you have not already seen it. Plasma screens do have the potential drawback of image burn in but the quality of the picture may be slightly better than LCD and over the past few years, many of the problems have been improved. The most important thing you need to keep in mind is how much ambient light you have in the room you are putting the TV in. Plasma screens are glass so you will get a lot of glare in a room with a lot of light. LCD screens do not have glare at all. Good luck. FYI...my 42" Sharp Aquos LCD 1080p flat screen is the best buy I've made in a long time.

OMG! A salesman told a person that plasmas leak? They need a special plug? They will say anything to make a sale. This particular salesman should be fired. Plasmas are better for games because they have near instantaneous response times and much higher refresh rates. LCD's can get more expensive because they need other types of technology to match what comes natural to plasmas. Fast images on cheaper LCD's can lag and will cause them to show a streak across the screen. Better LCD's won't do this but you may have to spend over $450. One big money saver is getting a TV that is 720p instead of 1080p. Most games and HD signals are in 720p. You won't even notice the difference between 720 and 1080 with screens 42" or lower. The only time 1080 may be better is on larger screens and with Blue-ray movies. I have a 42" LG plasma that I paid about $450 for. I play games on it all the time and I never had a burn-in problem but plasmas do use more power however. Since you will be using it for 20 hours a day you will see higher energy bills. How much higher I don't know because I don't keep mine on that long but it will be noticeable.

How big a tv you want.
If you want a 40" or below Get a LCD, any higher get a plasma.
LCD have a slow response time above 40" and the picture doesnt degrade, thers a reason thers not as many lcd's over 42" Plamas dont do any of this.
As for reflecting light plamas now have super clear panels, which stop glare. Now a days LCD screens reflect more light.
My advice is when buying a tv go to a shop and turn the tv off then look at screen.
O and a plasma will last for 10 years before the gas goes.
The average person changes tv's every 3 - 5 years so you would buy a new one before if would every run out.

Personally I like Lcd tvs better. With Lcd you dont get any burn-in like plasma's do. Also with Lcd the picture is brighter and clearer! Plus Lcd tvs are lighter and use less power. I just bought a Samsung LNT3242. What an AWSOME picture!!

It used to be plasma, hands down. After having been to TV store several times recently, I now think LCD is best. Bright and sharp pictures. But each has some pluses and minuses:
Plasmas reflect more light, so it's harder to see the picture in brightly lit rooms with sunlight coming in the windows or bright lights at an angle that will reflect. LCDs do much better in brighter rooms.
LCDs are lighter, but the screens damage easier. Plasmas display lower light levels better. Easier to distinguish different dark shades.
