Basically, a public school teacher abused his position to evangelise his students. The parents of a student complained. Some thought firing the teacher would be to harsh.
The teacher will be suspend for awhile without pay, and given a second chance. Another incident like this, he'll be fired.
Too harsh, to lenient, or just right ?
(I think it's a reasonable response)

I think complaints about the literature selection of some English classes (Jaws & Lord of the Flies, which non-Christians religion are they ???) are completely irrelevant.
This teacher showed an evangelising video that was not relevant to his class at all. It was a health class. Telling kids they will go to hell if they are Jewish or otherwise non-Christian is not an appropriate topic for a health class.
Many people did not like many of the literary selections that were to be read in their English lit classes. This is not a licence for teacher to undermine the religious upbringing of families.
If families object to a literature selection in an English class, I do believe they can & should have the right to opt their child out.

To use the excuse that you didn't care for some novels in your English lit class as an excuse to tell a Jewish student that she is going to hell is really heartless and anti-semitic.
I am glad that school board voted to respect the religious beliefs of all students, instead of allowing this anti-Semitism, to go unchecked.

Kenny P -- I don't agree with public schools handing out birth control, I have no problem with teaching ABOUT other religions in history or social studies class as IT RELATES TO THE CURRICULUM'
However, that is not a license for teachers to tell students that they will go to hell if they are Jewish, or otherwise non-Christian.
And Christians would scream bloody murder if a health teacher used the class to show students a clip that was designed to encourage atheist students to share atheism with Christian students. And they would be right to do so. So why is it OK, for a Christian teacher to bash a Jewish girls' faith ?

I wonder why people like yourself are afraid of differing views.
So what if it is religious oriented..........why does that scare you so much.
It's ok to pass out birth control, discuss witchcraft, etc to grade school, but say the name of Jesus and you get fired?
wow
Again......why does Jesus scare you so much?

I've seen that video. It has nothing to do with drunken driving. It's all about how a kid should feel guilty that his friend went to hell. It's pretty sick.
I'm all for giving someone a second chance, but I would certainly be closely monitoring the teacher from here on out. I think the punishment was appropriate. I'd imagine it was driven largely by the significant shortage of teachers, though.

Too lenient. He shouldn't be fired for his first offense, but he should have been suspended for a significantly longer time. Dec. 11-Jan. 1? I don't think so.
This is appalling. I mean, really appalling. He's lucky the parents left it as they did, and I'd be demanding that my daughter NEVER have him as a teacher for any subject.
Wow. I'm thoroughly disgusted.

You know my kids had to watch the movie JAWS in school of all things and some other stuff they did in the name of education was just ridiculous. I say kids should be able to discuss a bible clip if they have to discuss crap like the movie Jaws or books like "lord of the flies' I mean come on lets get them educated with what ever is out there. Why disciminate only against Chrisitan stuff? That's kind of bigoted dont you think? Smiles.

As a first offense, just about right. I would have added that he also teach one class on why it is wrong to proselytize in public schools, and offer a public apology to all.

There is no way that that video could be considered to be about drunk driving. If he is saying that that is all he could find to show his class then he should be fined for lazy teaching as well as being suspended.
I would be horrified if that film was shown to my children!
