I am wondering what options there are for a tat that was done poorly, or generally did a lot of damage? My daughter has a monarch butterfly tat on her lower back that was really beautiful at first. We didn't notice the damage until it began to heal poorly. Apparently the artist went too deep and there is some hard scar tissue present there. Does anyone know what options there might be for this type of damage?

Asking this for a friend... any help would be appricated... thanks

You should go back to the person who did the tattoo or to an experienced tattoo artist and make sure the tattoo was done properly. Tattoos can be laser removed but it definitely takes more than one laser treatment to do so and it is pricey. The darker and more colorful it is the more laser treatments are needed. She could get the tattoo modified (turned into something else)/fixed. Good luck with finding a soln.

if there is scarring there isn't much that can be done. she can try using scar medication to soften it and make it smaller but generally scarred skin that is raised will stay that way. my first tattoo scarred and it is still raised even tho it has been covered up.

it may not be the tattooist's fault...she may just develop thick scar tissue, otherwise called keloids
some surgeons do scar revisions
see a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon?

She could get a touch-up, or could get it covered up with another tattoo.
