From www.howstuffworks.com:
"It depends. If you just got a really bad hair cut, then hair seems like it does not grow at all, while hair that you have to shave every day seems to grow like a weed!
Ignoring these perceptual differences, human hair seems to grow at a pretty consistent rate of about half a millimeter or so per day, or about half an inch every month (this study quotes a specific rate of 0.44 mm per day). It may grow faster or slower depending on your age, your genetics and your hormonal state (pregnancy seems to have an affect on hair), but half a millimeter per day is a good average.
What this means is that the maximum growth rate for hair is about 6 inches (15 cm) per year. If you have short hair and are thinking, "It sure would be nice if I had hair down to my waist," then you are going to have about a four-year wait!"

It depends on how fast your hair grows.. Guys hair generally grows faster. A couple of my friends shaved their head at the beginning of the yeah and they loved it! Said it was very liberating and they raised quite a bit. They didn't look too bad either. I'm glad there's still people like you out there :) Merry Christmas

Hey, don't listen to all the naysayers out there. I really admire you for this selfless and brave act. Besides, it's just hair; it'll grow back.
Hair grows about 1/2 inch a month, so your "getting ready" time in the morning will be almost non-existent for a while.
Good luck and have fun! Be sure to surround yourself with family and friends who support your decision. It'll make all the difference.

OMG!!! DONT DO IT!!! Try doing the fundraiser differently, because it took me almost 2 years to grow back my hair (its about 5 in.) after I shaved it. Also, when you grow it back it might look very wierd and different (mine was spiky for a couple of monthes).
It might be different for girls.

Never shaved it bald, but I went from about an inch of hair in 1999 to touching the shoulders in 2002 with regular haircuts to trim the weirdness of the growout stage. You go girl!!! And barettes and hairbands are the growout's best friends.

wow! good for you! the average for hair growth is between 1/4 and 1/2 inch per month. so to get hair about shoulder length, it would take about a year and a half or so. but if your going with a cute pixie cut it would only take a few months. hope this helps.

Wow. That's really cool of you. It will take about a month for you to have "normal" hair. Are you able to wear scarves and hats until then. It would be really cool if you draw on your head. You could change it every day.

Depends. Id say about 4 months till you cant tell. You can always grow it long and chop it short and give them that hair.
YOu dont need to shave yourself bald. They can give you a decent short haircut.
