"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural & spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity" A widely cited, but apparently spurious quotation attributed to Albert Einstein 1
bullet "The greatest achievement is selflessness.
The greatest worth is self-mastery.
The greatest quality is seeking to serve others.
The greatest precept is continual awareness.
The greatest medicine is the emptiness of everything.
The greatest action is not conforming with the worlds ways.
The greatest magic is transmuting the passions.
The greatest generosity is non-attachment.
The greatest goodness is a peaceful mind.
The greatest patience is humility.
The greatest effort is not concerned with results.
The greatest meditation is a mind that lets go.
The greatest wisdom is seeing through appearances." Atisha.
bullet "If you live the sacred and despise the ordinary, you are still bobbing in the ocean of delusion." Lin-Chi.

the challenge with asking questions like this on Y!A is which you get colors of opinion. continually, my reccomendation to human beings is to study 'What The Buddha Taught' with the help of Walpola Rahula. that's an exceedingly reliable, uncomplicated to study, hassle-unfastened e book which could supply you an understand-how of what Buddhism is and how it got here into being. For me - and that's in basic terms my opinion - the muse of the Buddhism that I guidance is Compassion, Meditation and attempting to stay a ethical existence. yet there is plenty greater to it than that. Many libraries finished to overflowing! study the e book, then you definately'll certainly understand. Jon C Edit something we tend to not talk approximately yet which, certainly, is of user-friendly value is the actuality that this international is illusory. What we see isn't the way it truly, truly is. It even seems that a thank you to get happiness is amazingly different from what we predict of. that's in basic terms via meditation that we finally get that. J C

Talk to persons who fought in the Vietnam war?
Those were all Buddhists? they got pretty cruel and vicious for a religon of peace. but these religions of peace like to blow up buildings.
find out what the countries that are Buddhist do, that is a better explanation of that religon.
In the area of Islands where they had the tidal wave? we seen buddhists guys sitting there? They sell their daughters into prostitution to the tourists. From 5 years old and up.

I use wikiepdia.com and it is often helpful.
Other than that I would tell you to visit a Buddist temple.
