The gruesome scenes of Atomic bombing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and its aftermath and the scenes of horrible and untold suffering of the innocent people there ever since then have shattered any claim of Man to call himself "civilised"... And yet, strangely enough, NEITHER U.S NOR OTHER NATIONS SEEM TO HAVE LEARNT THE LESSONS OF REFRAINING FROM WAR, AGGRESSION,GREED AND AGGRANDISEMENT.
Is it not possible for all countries to unite and turn all their undivided attention to the art of living in peace and mutual respect, sharing the common goals of eradiction of poverty, disease, illiteracy, unemployment, unjust exploitaion of natural resources, child abuse and the like and spend all their precious time and effort to make this Earth a better place to live for the suffering millions... ? Together, all the nations could even fix a time-limit for carrying out these goal-oriented projects with the U.N and W.H.O supervising the progress made by each nation...

If the voice of ordinary peace-loving people desiring their country's foreign policies to be helpful and friendly to other countries cannot change the domineering and autocratic attitude and conduct of their President, then can such a country be described to be democratic ?

Oh yes we have learned, unfortunely others have never learned a lesson. They continue to find reasons to kill innocent people. It funny that when any nation says stop, people like you find A way to blame us for doing what we can to keep innocents from dying. You want to stop war, why not talk to the groups that think 9-11 was a great thing and promise to do it again when possible.

Certainly the citizens have the power to do what you suggest except that they have to wait for the next Presidential election.Impeachment
is not such an easy process.Hence the four year wait is a must.
While not everyone will generally agree with what you state,it cannot be also gainsaid that the latter part of your suggestion is so utopian that it is not capable of being even seriously considered what with the diversity of thought,
culture, tradition, politics and above all the financial muscle of all the members of the UN.
Not to mention the internal strife ever present in some of the nations. The ever widening gap between the first world and the third world is another contributing factor because the latter is so dependent on aid from the former that they are almost subservient. The UN is a toothless tiger which has lost its relevance in its present form with only the big five enjoying veto powers.
That alone makes for equals among unequals or the other way about,if you prefer. In the
ultimate analysis peoples of the world will have to learn to accept the great divide between the rich nations and the poor ones and dream of that day dawning when the problems listed by you will no more be so.

I'm not ready to have our government turn over its sovereign authority to the UN. It's naive to think the entire world can unite in agreement on anything.
The bombing of Japan was a horrible but necessary tragedy that saved millions of lives. Japan started an unprovoked war of aggression against the US and Japan was given every opportunity to surrender after it became apparent to them the war was lost. Millions of innocent lives were saved on both sides as a result of the atomic bombs being dropped.

As long as the president has his own say in policy matters, there will be no change of its belligerency. If they really want to change its attitude, they have to switch over democracy like India. Then there will be a ray of hope of tranquillity in the world.
