I am looking to buy my first car and am trying to decide between a Ford Ranger and a Chevy S10. I would apprecaite the pros and cons of both and an opinion of which looks cooler. What ever I get I want an extended cab, a style side (not a stepside), maybe 4x4, year 1998+, with around an $8,000 dollar budget. Plus I am not looking for an Extreme package on the S10 but would not mind the Edge package on the Ranger. I later look to add a 4-6" lift with bigger tires and wheels. Tell me what I should get. Good answers that help me out will get some easy points!!!

Aftermarket parts are far more plentiful for the S-10. I've had two Rangers, '97 and '98, and wasn't really disappointed in them, but more in the availability of parts. My current truck is an '01 Dakota with the same issues - like the truck, hate the parts availability and selection. Go to any autoparts store or look online at a distributor or even e-bay and you'll see the difference.

Well, I'm an old Ford Guys, with 6 Ford products from the 70s in our yard, and driving a 2000 Taurus as an every day vehicle; but I had a leased Chevy- S-10- it was a great little truck, very powerful 4.3 litre V-6, and smooth tranny. After 4 years, i opted to return it rather than buy it out. Regretted it ever since. One of the best and most reliable vehicle I've ever had. In a small truck, you could do a lot worst!!!

A Ford Ranger, with a small V6 (3.0 L) only gets about 16 mpg. If you are looking at the small truck for gas mileage, you might as well get a full size truck vs a Ranger. Don't know about the S-10.

Both are garbage and don't deserve a thought but if there were two vehicles left in the world, I would probably still get a chevy. What's wrong with Tacoma other than it's more expensive but don't you think there is a reason for that?

Despite everyone who will say chevy this/ford that , I don't believe theres a substantial difference, go out and look and test drive a couple and pick the one you like the best. 8G you shouldn't have any problem finding a good one.

FROM A REPAIR ASPECT AND RELIABILITY GO WITH THE CHEVY BECAUSE YOU CANT GO WRONG.
THE FORD WILL BE IN THE REPAIR MORE THAN ON THE ROAD.
