If you were born that way, know that we all are. No one is perfectly symmetrical. If this is something new, you should be alarmed and go to the emergency room.

If a recent change, then there are a number of possible causes.

First of all, is the eyeball actually bigger or is it just that the eyelids are open wider on one side? Most often what appears to be a bigger eye is simply more eye showing. So then you need to determine if one eye is open extra or if the other is closed more.

Possible causes include glaucoma, thyroid disease, lid nerve disorders, lid muscle disorders, swollen lid, droopy lid, orbital tumour and lung cancer.

You need an eye examination to determine cause.
