So I got the juice, but I forgot to ask, what type of wine do you suggest? I was thinking Merlot, but I'm open to suggestions.

A full-bodies red is good, but don't go over the top. A Spanish Rioja would be ideal, but a merlot, cabernet or shiraz will do.
Don't forget you add additional acids and booze that pretty much cover up any finer accents the wine may have.
Also I hope you use some fresh orange and lemon juice or peel!!?

Something cheap, red, and in a big bottle. It can be done with other colors, but I like sangria with red wine. I honestly know little about wine, but with all the fruit juices, liquor, and pieces of fruit, it covers the wine, so you don't want to waste something expensive that should be allowed to stand on its own. I've made sangria several times for house parties, and no one's ever complained!

i usually err on the cheap side and do a big fruity wine like Shiraz/Syrah, Zinfandel or even merlot. I wouldn't spend a whole lot on it since y ou are mixing with all sorts of stuff. i think I usually use Yellow Tail Shiraz or something similar. Ravenswood Zinfandel is also nice.

Lambrusco would be ideal because it has a bit of the sweet characteristic of sangria, plus it has just a touch of sparkle. Or you could just buy a bottle of Real Sangria (it's the best, imho).

you could go with that, but you may want to try something on the sweeter side since sangria is traditionally a sweet wine

Merlot is good. You can try any red you like - cabernet, pinot grigio, etc.
Also, some sangrias are made with white wine... I don't like them myself, but it is another option to try.
