I'd say 9pm

It depends on who you are calling. In most cases I won't call after 9:30 pm, especially to people who I don't know well, but I know a few people who I know don't mind if I call later than that.

Don't send text messages after that time either. Some people keep their mobile phones on after they go to sleep, in case someone would really need to reach them for some important reason, but it's really annoying to be woken up in the middle of the night by some stupid text message joke or something else that could have waited till the day after.

i think 9:00 pm is a reasonable cut off time for calling someone. it sounds like you may not talk to them that often, so i'd go with 9:00 pm. if it's someone you do know or talk to on a regular basis, then it may be okay to call later on in the evening. my sister starts getting her kids ready for bed between 8:30 and 9:00 at night, depending on the age of the child and calling during that time is likely to get you an 'i'll call you back tomorrow, i'm putting the kids to bed now'. my boyfriend and i start getting our 3 year old ready for bed about that time, too, and while we may talk to you after that, it's difficult to do so while trying to get a three year old to sleep. :)

Personally, I would advise up to 9:30pm to "initiate" the call. Unless you know you are calling a family with lots of children. They may not appreciate an "interruption" during their bedtime routine. Any later than 10pm and people think it's an emergency call or a "bad news" call.

Have a polite day.

Depends on the person. If you don't know them well, I wouldn't call after 9:00 PM, but personally I'll call some of my night owl friend up until 11:00 PM.

9:00 p.m. is the outside time for most people. If someone tells you that it is okay to call later, or not to call after an earlier time, then you can make a mental note of the specifics for that person.

Although it's a personal call, like many others here, 9:00 is the cut off. I won't answer the phone after then unless it's my sister.

My rule is no calls from anyone after 9 pm. After long, busy days, my husband and I like to sit down and enjoy dinner together and then relax for a couple hours before bed. That is our time and we are quite protective of it!

Ask the person you are trying to call. Only they can tell you what time is to late. If you are not really sure, call at 8:00p.m. or before.

If in doubt follow the 10/10 Rule:

No calls before 10AM, no calls after 10PM.

I have a double digit rule. Don't call me BEFORE double digits in the morning (10) or AFTER double digits at night (10).
