As stated, it depends on the species of bird. I have finches and they normally molt only once per year. Sometimes during the summer when it is very hot for long periods of time, it will trigger a molt as well.

You should provide your bird with a diet higher in protein during the molt - since feathers are mainly made up of protein. You can purchase commerical softfoods or make your own eggfood to increase the amount of protein in your birds diet.

Smaller birds go through a molt twice a year, larger birds once a year. They molt to replace old feathers, during a major molt the parrot will loose feathers every day as new ones grow in. They loose a good amount but not totally all.

Birds molt usually twice a year, several feathers a day. They do not loose all of their feathers, if they do, there is something wrong with the bird.
