By fight, I do not mean by going after innocent people and attacking. I mean defending your own self and putting an end to persecution and oppression. Would you? And what do you think of what Islam states concerning terrorism?

"We find in verses 2:190-193 that the Quran values religious liberty even above the right to life: "... attacking a religious group (fitnah) is more severe than a plain attack (qatl)." These are the first verses revealed that tell Muslims to fight to defend themselves.

"Jihad" is an Arabic word that means "struggle." It is either military or nonviolent. The verses prescribe when military jihad is allowed. In all other situations, nonviolent jihad (personal and civic struggle) is the only legitimate way to achieve change.

"Fight in the way of God against those who are fighting you and do not start a fight; God surely dislikes aggressors."

Since the verb "fight" is in the plural form, jihad is a collective action based on a political decision by "mutual consultation" (Quran 42:38). No scholar, mullah or religious leader may "declare jihad." The grammar also excludes non-collective military actions such as assassination, sabotage and guerrilla warfare.

The "way of God" is then defined: "And kill them only in combat clashes, and expel them only from where they expelled you." This outlaws the killing of non-combatants (terrorism), prisoners of war, retreating troops or surrendering soldiers. It also prohibits overreaching into enemy territory in the course of liberating a country.

Nothing in the Qur'an ever says anything about attacking the innocent, and all the verses that DO mention battle, war or fighting are either in defensive statuses or in ones during a battle that happened in the past... but try explaining that to someone who doesn't WANT to understand it... it's almost impossible!

God bless your soul sis :).

Peace.

I want to re-emphasis what muhammad a said. The amount of sayings from Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his progeny declaring the Jihad al Akbar to be the Jihad an-Nafs is copious. One even gives an order of preference, beginning with speaking out against evil to, finally, acting physically against evil - and all of this only when it would do some good.

Shia Islam emphasises jihad to the point that it is one of ten required actions for Muslims (the list is called "furu ad-din"). In Shia Islam, the disctinction between Jihad al Akbar and Jihad al Asghar is clear, and Jihad al Akbar is defined again as the struggle of one's own self to do good and refrain from evil.

Dear

There is an authentic Hadeeth saying of Holy Prophet peace be on him that he was returning from a battle along with his companions, when they reached Madinah city, he said to them let us turn from Jihad e Asghar (smaller jihad) towards Jihad e Akbar (bigger jihad).

When the companions Allah be pleased with them asked him, what Jihad e Akbar is? Holy Prophet peace be on him replied Jihad un Nafs is Jihad e Akbar.

Jihad un Nafs is striving hard against your own desires and it is regarded as higher than taking part in a battle and fight against an enemy.

You can write until your little fingers fall off but while we are reading that we are reading what the Islamic forces in Algeria just did. Or the killings in Bagdad, or the 200 lashes given to a women. It is to late to salvage your reputation some in that religion has brought reproach upon it and it is not getting better with time. To bad but that is just the way it is. Actually the Christian religon doesn't have a very good record either.

No, I'd stand back and watch the silly believers kill each other, then help their poor orphans.
