I'm just wondering because I visited the website www.scientology.org and in the corner they have pictures of volunteer ministers with crosses on their shirts. Do they believe in Jesus or do they just like how the cross looks? An article on the website says that they dont force anyone to believe anything or accept anything.
Im confused....

I know the cross was around longer than Jesus, that's how Jesus got crucified on one. But my question is why do they use that as a symbol when they don't believe in Jesus... or do they? I'm looking for what they believe in and I can't find out why they have that there.

Scientology believes in God, and they believe in Jesus but mostly the way that many other religions do (judaism, islam, etc) that he was a prophet.
The cross closely resembles the Christian cross, but differs from it with the addition of four diagonal rays between the conventional horizontal and vertical arms. The eight points of the cross represent the eight dynamics in Scientology:
1) The Self
2) Creativity, sex, and procreation (family)
3) Group, society, community
4) Species survival (humankind)
5) Life forms in general
6) Matter
7) Spirit
8) Infinity or Supreme being[1]
The horizontal beam of the symbol represents material existence, the vertical represents the spirit, a concept directly borrowed from Rosicrucian symbolism.

real short (and not the full answer): 1) crosses are way older than Christianity. 2) look at the Scn cross. It has 8 points. These, correlate to the 8 Dynamics. (If you have Dianetics you can read about the first 4 - the other 4 are dilenated in Scn) Youre right. Scn has just about nothing to do with Christianity. Its more of just a commonly identified symbol slightly customized (the 8 points).

Knowing that the cross predates "Jesus" and not used as an exclusive Christian symbol even AFTER it's "messiah" had come and gone, perhaps you should assume that the Scientology's cross is based on a cross design that has nothing to do with Christianity.
If you did so, you'd be on the right track.
Scientology's cross is actually based on Alestair Crowley's "Crossed-out Cross". See a comparison here: http://www.lermanet.com/scientology-and-occult/crowleyscrossedoutcross.jpg
