I think religions usually end up corrupting the culture. It happened when Christianity took over Europe, and it happened in Iran when Islam took over.
If it goes on long enough, the religion become so interwoven with the culture that it's hard to separate the two.

Usually it's the majority religions that CAUSE those things you cited. At least in the history of Christianity and Islam.

Um..."majority religion" is /responsible/ for "cultural injuries" (as you have defined it). It is in religion's best interest to accept cultural norms (otherwise less people will be there when they pass around the collection plate!).

Actually, religion should be the absolute truth, not what fits into everyone's lifestyle.
It's not flattery, it's not what people want to hear, it's the hard truth.
Remember that Christ told the people that he came not in peace, but with a "sword." That sword is truth. It is depicted as a sword because it is unyielding, as the truth is, and cuts to the very heart of those who do wickedness.
SO many people want a religion that allows them to do as they please, a religion that fits into their lifestyle. In that, it is a useless religion.

I note that most of the points you list as cultural injuries are as much part of religious history as they are secular.

Your question as stated is illogical. It is based on an "either or" scenario without an agreement of the "either or". Please refine your question. Apologies to those who have responded but would you mind reading the question?
