Doctors, especially neurologists, can observe brain waves and other factors that affect memory loss using scans. This is what they do to determine patients who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's or even those in a coma.

Sorry I don't know if there is a test. Just a suggestion to help it you can keep your mind sharp by doing puzzles and such (sudoku, brain games). Also ginko biloba the natural herbal supplement can help with mental sharpness. I've also heard that fish oil & flax seed oil may help too, but not sure how much. I'd research that one a little more.

I work in the mental health profession and I actually come across this question almost every day. What I get my clients to try is licking their elbows. Sounds silly, but there are pretty basic connections in our biology connecting flexibility/arm tendons/development to our brains.

If you did have memory loss, it would be impossible to lick your elbow.
