I am looking to do kind of a cool, contemporary style in my house while incorporating some of my husbands style as well. he is really into airplanes so I thought it would look really cool if I found an old, full size airplane propeller to anchor to my wall. However, I don't even know where to begin finding something like that. Does anyone know of any airplane junkyards or something like that where I could find one?

They are on eBay very frequently. Good luck!

Have you never seen old westerns where the wagon wheels seem to roll backwards? It is an illusion. The camera first sees the a spoke at say a 12 o'clock position, then it see's in the next frame the spoke at the 10 0'clock position leading you to believe it is going counter clockwise. That is what you are seeing with the airplane propellers. Some aircraft (such as some using a Volkswagen engine) do turn counter clockwise.

The problem with eBay is that you're going to be buying a serviceable prop, which is expensive. You probably want one that is past its prime and isn't suitable to put on another airplane.

There are companies that buy wrecked airplanes from insurance companies and part them out. I suggest a google search. You might go to your local airport and talk to the chief mechanic. They might have specific contacts.

On the other hand, I just looked up props at Aircraft Spruce and new ones aren't that expensive for a basic fixed-pitch prop. Try http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/ap/props.html.

There is an aviation salvage yard about an hour south of Dallas, TX. I don't remember the name of the place, but I used to buy some fairly inexpensive salvaged parts there. It shouldn't be too difficult to do a search and find them.

Craigslist , eBay or if there is an airport near you...call them and ask who may have one to sell.
