Only the antibiotic is administered in the gluteus maximus muscle. All the rest are administered via the deltoid muscle in the upper arm. However, if you have never received an inoculation you should mention that to your recruiter and to the medical personnel running the shot line. Contrary to what one person answered, there is a condition called anaphylactic shock which appears in some people who are allergic to the shots. One Marine recruit died and hit the floor before I could get the needle out of his arm at Parris Island.

In the military in general you'll get so many shots that you'll lose count and track of their purpose. I was getting so many shots at one time I just didn't ask...
They give you some pretty nasty ones to, espcially the smallpox shot! The whole right side of my body felt like I was beaten with a baseball bat and I had a fever and felt ill for 2 weeks. My arm was bleeding, swollen and puss was running out of the blisters like tears lol Nice big scar for the rest of my life, thank you military!
But yeah, you'll get hit with about 5 shots in Boot Camp, the worst is the penicillan, right on the cheek! I heard dudes screaming from that one, fun stuff.

You will get the penicilan shot in the butt. I would say that was the worse. The shot didn't hurt but it felt like there was a knot where you got the shot be cause the medication was thick.

When you get the shot, be careful. If you feel a hand on each of your shoulders, start running.

You will get plenty of shots, your arms will be sore but you won't notice much with all the push ups you'll be doing

And the peanut butter shot is known as GG, you only get it when deploying to an area that has Malaria.

1979 AF basic they used two air injectors at the same time one in each arm, two shots in the @ss with med - large bore needles. Not bad, only had two of the big muscle bound guys hit the ground that day.

your gonna have to get shots regardless, so you might as well just get them. it might hurt but if you wanna do it, dont let some needles scare you out of it.

I remember them in the arm, not in the butt. They use like an air gun, it's fast. The only shot that ever bothered me was the typhoid shot I got in tech school.
