I'm with Shahbarak on this one - any which way you look at it; it's nothing but a total loss and an absolute disaster of omnipotent proportions. In other words, spin the theological wheel to your heart's desire, it always lands on The Smelly Swiss Cheese Full of Holes.

The Hell most people claim to know about, according to Scripture, was created for the devil and his angels. Three states are referenced to hell (death, hell and the grave). There are also three heavens.
The above does not reference folk or theological ignorance. Here one is blessed with such as limbo, purgatory, a limited supply of virgins; or a red demon tormenting humans in a place set aside in darkness for the legions of darkness.
If you believe nothing, at least keep the myths straight. The fox is not in charge of the hen house.

First lets look at some scriptures in the bible that talk about where we go when we die?
When pronouncing sentence upon Adam, God Stated : " Dust you aer and to dust you will return (Genesis 3:19) Where was Adam before God formed him from the dust of the ground and gave him life? Why, he simply did not exist! When he died Adam returned to taht state of complete absence of life. The condition of the dead is made clear at Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10, where we read:"THE DEATH KNOW NOTHING... IN THE GRAVE, WHERE YOU ARE GOING, THERE IS NEITHER WORKING NOR PLANNING NOR KNOWLEDE NOR WISDOM
scripturally, death is a state of nonexistence. the dead have no awareness, no feelings no thoughts.
Since the dead have no conscious existence, hell cannot be a fiery place of torment where the wicked suffer after death. What, then, is hell? Examining what happened to Jesus after he died helps to answer that question. The Bible writer Luke recounts: "Neither was [Jesus] forsaken in Hades [hell, King James Version] nor did his flesh see corruption."* (Acts 2:31) Where was the hell to which even Jesus went? The apostle Paul wrote: "I handed on to you . . . that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that he was buried, yes, that he has been raised up the third day according to the Scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3, 4) So Jesus was in hell, the grave, but he was not abandoned there, for he was raised up, or resurrected.
Job prayed for protection in hell
Consider also the case of the righteous man Job, who suffered much. Wishing to escape his plight, he pleaded: "Who will grant me this, that thou mayest protect me in hell [Sheol], and hide me till thy wrath pass?"# (Job 14:13, Douay Version) How unreasonable to think that Job desired to go to a fiery-hot place for protection! To Job, "hell" was simply the grave, where his suffering would end. The Bible hell, then, is the common grave of mankind where good people as well as bad ones go.

Does Hell exist on Earth or on a spiritual plain? Do we create our own Hell? Do we stumble into other people's private Hells? Does God have a sense of humor?

Yup.
Even the devil admits it when he is having a conversation with GOD.
GOD has the upper hand over the devil.
READ JOB.
Job 1
Prologue
1 In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil. 2 He had seven sons and three daughters, 3 and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had a large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East.
4 His sons used to take turns holding feasts in their homes, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom.
Job's First Test
6 One day the angels [a] came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan [b] also came with them. 7 The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?"
Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."
8 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."
9 "Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied. 10 "Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. 11 But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face."
12 The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger."
Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
