All sorts of contaminants cause water to get polluted. These may include, but are not limited to:

-Oil spills
-Factory runoff
-Garbage tossed in by pedestrians
-Mobsters trying to get rid of bodies (haha jk)
-Non-human contamination. Such as heat and still water causing the growth of bacteria.

Water mostly gets polluted by big companies and stuff like that. There's a certain amount of waste that companies can dump in the water, but it still adds up. Also when chemicals are just thrown into the ground they get into the water because they get moved around in the ground.

there are plenty of ways. An oil spill can do it. Many pipes coming from factories and waste plants lead to bodies of water. Water traffic, like boats can cause pollution too

well, it can get polluted in many ways. It could get polluted by garbage thrown out by people or it could get polluted by algae blooms. It could also get polluted by oil leaks from boating. Water can even be polluted from land. this can be caused by fertilizers, oil, or even littering waste an improper way. The fluids from these drain into the ground and then travel down into the aquifer and get into our water supply.

It is'nt always but it can be the cause of polluted river water or the wastes and litter which people throw on the beaches and it later flows away with the waves....

Sometimes it is runoff from streets that have oil drips from cars. Sometimes it is trash that people drop into water to save the bother of proper disposal. Sometimes it is discharges from plants that use chemicals for their processes. Sometimes it is old style sewage treatment plants that do not meet modern standards and discharge water that has had only minimal treatment. Sometimes it is people cleaning out garages and basements and finding chemicals that they pour down into street sewers.
