Got out of work late tonight and was hungry and didn't feel like cooking. So I did something rare for me - I went to an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet.

The place was empty when I got in, but I was quickly overwhelmed an overweight man and woman and their trashy son.

As I get my food, the fat husband opens the kitchen door and has the audacity to yell at the cook to get him some green onions for his soup.

Already sickened, I'm stuck behind his porker wife who has a huge mountain of food on her plate and proceeds to complain to me how this buffet "doesn't have enough food." I stare at her blankly and say nothing.

To my chagrin, these pigs have been seated next to my table. While I eat this slop, they talk LOUDLY about every known medical condition they've ever had and then start bitching more about the supposed lack of food at the buffet.

Sickened by this subhuman swine, I left without finishing my dinner

Anyone else have a similar experience at a buffet? No more for me

Well, the Chinese buffet attracted you, so you must be disgusting. You're kind of a jerk, too.

oh dear! I love a chinese buffet because you get to eat loads of different starters, but i never over indulge. We have a lovely one in Birmingham, uk that we go to for special occasions and it is great. You must have had a bad experience. Mind you, i do remember once seeing a huge fat man with a mountain of ribs on his plate, he must have upended the whole container, and then he left half of them. Such a waste. I think buffets, be they chinese or anything else, bring out the greedy element "hey i can eat eat as much as i like so i will". Very rude i think!

No, I haven't. I love my Chinese buffet. Some people think acting that way makes them look important but I haven't run across any like that since I left California. Don't blame the owners and probably if you went again those people would not be there.

I am completely against the idea of a buffet. I think the whole concept encourages overeating and is a feeding ground for people looking to gorge on food for 2 hours, for a very cheap price. When at a buffet, everyone is going to eat way more than they normally would if they were at a normal restaurant, where portions are decided for you. If the food is there, most people will go up for seconds and thirds, throwing all portion control out the window.

I think any kind of buffet is going to attract the kinds of people you are talking about, or anyone looking for a cheap, plentiful meal. I think the situation you described is a little extreme, as not all overweight people would be so blatant in their desire gorge, and most that I have seen are more shy about eating in front of others. I think there are people of all shapes and sizes who find things to complain about, in any setting, not just overweight people. It just so happened that this family was both overweight, and extremely rude. Not a pleasant combo!

Moral of the story is, don't go to a buffet! It's just not healthy, plain and simple. :-)

Yeah, not ALL buffets are like that, but the cheap ones (usually chinese) seem to be. I think it's because it gives bigger people an opportunity to gorge for a cheap price. I hate buffets; I think they are nasty. However,I have been to some at a dinner theatre or at a classy resteraunt that were nice. I just don't see the need to stuff my face because it's "all you can eat." I eat until I am full and then stop.

More and more people at restaurants, and anywhere come to think of it, act as if they are the only ones in the room. Or that they are somehow the most important people there. I, personally haven't experienced something quite like you described, but if I did, I would kindly ask the waiter for a different table and I would be sure to do so just loud enough for them to hear.

This is the first question I've felt compelled to respond to in weeks.

What I want to address is your arrogant audacity. Who could you possibly think you are to hold others in contempt? Barbra Streisand? You've got all the class of Josef Göbbels.

Although gluttony is an atrocious vice, to be avoided at all costs, so is the sin of pride, of which you reek mightily.

I used to hold fast food and buffets in contempt and they still are not my favorite venue for dining, but do keep in mind that there are people who can only afford one or two items from the One Dollar Menu. Eating at a buffet can be a real treat if you're poor, and that's exactly what you have described, people not lucky enough to pursue trendy cuisine and personal trainers.

As your post, with its ignornace and self-aggrandizing nonsence, made both me and myriad other readers both ill and angry, it is my express wish that you come to know what its like being poor, fat and white. There's no way you have the guts to go after African Americans who are poor and fat, and there's certainly no shortage of the latter.

Why don't you do us all a favor and go on a permanent fast. Fasting purifies the mind and spirit, and yours, darling, needs some soap and water.

The "Old Guy is back! Remember: one day YOU might find your self held in similar gratuitous contempt. One day, for example, we may become evolved enough to recognize that you're as self indulgent with your prejudice and dislike of people as the people whom you reviled over the years. Chew on that on your next trip to the buffet.

If the place was empty, why didn't you just move?
I've never had a bad experience at a Chinese buffet.

Just about any all-you-can-eat buffet should be avoided like the plague if you don't want to be surrounded by some of the most unattractive people God put on this earth. Overweight people who don't have a clue as to what portion control is going back two and three times, and then hitting the dessert bar with a full-size plate . . . gag! And their nasty little children who pick up food with their fingers -- and put it back in the serving tray . . . ewww!

If I were you, I would definitely have asked for a different table. There was no need to have had to listen to their dinner conversation, too.

All you can eat buffets and certain fast food places are ghetto. Very low vibration. I just do not go to those places, ever!

P.S When I say ghetto I am not referring to SES, I am referring to mentality of patrons, quality of food, and general atmosphere.

Sounds like you're more preoccupied with their size than their behavior. What does being overweight have to do with what they were saying/doing? Don't be such a snob. Let it go. If it bothered you that much, why didn't you leave?
