Ok this isn't a homework question, just an overall general question, looking to see what your perspective is: How does Jesus' lineage illustrate the steadfastness of God's promise?

Thanks :)

His family lineage, that's usually what "lineage" refers to. A list of 'who-sired-who' --- is what is meant by lineage.

OOhh..This is an easy one.
It's hard to explain though...
God originally prom ised Abraham that through his family, the whole world would be blessed.
Years later, once Abrahams family was a great nation. A woman named Marah (Meaning bitterness) left Jerusalem with her husband and sons. After both of her sons had died, her husband passed away as well. Marah was left with only two daughter in laws, not blood related at all. Both of them pledged to stay with Marah in her grief and return with her to Marah's home land, Israel/Judah. Marah gave a speach... and kind of told them to go where they would feel the most loved and comfortable. Orpha left, while Ruth stayed. Since Marah was old and not much use on the work-field, Ruth worked and gathered any left over barley in the fields that was left by the paid hired hands (the only "job" she could get as a woman back then). This supported them both. When the owner of the field saw her, and what she was doing for a mother-in-law which she had no blood relation, he was very moved. Boaz was attracted to Ruth at that point. They were married soon after. Boaz was the father to Jesse, who was the father to King David, who had a direct lineage with Mary, who was chosen to be the carrier of God's own son, Jesus (this can be found in the first chapter of the book of Matthew).
That's about it... do you need specific verses? I can give you that...I am just feeling a bit lazy now, so I didn't include them. Good luck!

Because Jesus is both physically (through Mary) and legally (through Joseph) from the House of David, or Judah. This completes the promise to David. No contradiction here.

Did you know that Mary's father was of Judah (the kingly tribe) and her mother was of Levi (the priestly tribe)?

That makes Jesus truly both a King and High Priest!

Our God is awesome!

To which lineage are you referring? There are two, each is different.

EDIT

I know what "lineage" means. Do you understand "to which" and "there are two"?

Which lineage?

There are two (completely contradictory) lineages offered in the NT.
