Because you're normal.

Because you are a spiritual being, you've obviously progressed further than "Brutally honest" in you're spiritual progression. He's mired in religion like the Pharisees of the Bible were. It could also be that, good normally produces good consequences, and that bad normally produces bad consequences and you recognize that. Hell (gehenna), was the burial pit that was used outside of Jeresulem. Bodies were put in the pit and burned as a way of disposing of bodies. Thus "Hell-fire". Keep searching and keep an open mind. Close mindedness will make you like some of your other answerers. Nobody likes a closeminded religous zealot, except other closeminded religous zealots. Notice that it is the religous zealots responding to your question that are the most mean spirited. They've already put you in hell, and they're sure they're right. I tried that lifestyle for a while in my searches, didn't work, sucked real bad. Just like the killings in the churches this weekend (which I definitely do not condone), some troubled soul went to a church and was looking for a place to stay for the night and they turned him down, ran him off. Most churches (Christian) are hypocrites. They don't really want to show love if your not in their flock. They operate out of fear. Studies have shown that fear is a strong motivator, but it doesn't last long. That's why you have so many people coming into the church to help change their lives, and leaving the church later. Most people who stay in church are people who were raised in church and don't know any thing different, and they are afraid to do anything different.

it is the same with me i just can't believe in something greater then the human life. the god figure is just there to make some feel safe and the religion is just to scare people into doing what is "right" do feel bad that you don't believe in this stuff as far as i am concerned if i am right that there is no heaven or hell than i don't have to worry about any thing and if i am wrong it isn't like i did any thing that bad in this life that a whatever god figure is truly there would send me to this evil place for all eternity

any way how could a hell be determined? every ones hell is completely different

so if there is a hell and you find your self there maybe it wont be that bad a mix up you get sent to some one Else's hell

and as MCR says hell is quite lovely except for the smell

you can deal with that right?

Could it be that you don't really believe in a heaven or hell, so there's no enticement? No fear of hell? I really think man has a basic inclination to do good and religion plays no part.

If the ONLY reason you do good is because you fear you'll go to hell if you don't; that in my mind makes you a real hypocrite who might "burn in hell."

Sure, people go astray, but on the whole, man is good.

That is an age-old philosophical debate: whether morals are moral because God said they are or if morals are moral regardless of god's existence. My view is that within every community it is better to do right because of self-preservation. Human beings are smart enough to know that there are consequences for every action good or bad. From the beginning of the human race if man was not encoded with the ability to chose right, we would have all been cannibals. I am not religious and I chose to do good because if I do not, the outcome will not profit me.

Hell doesn't scare me.
In all honesty, I really hope Heaven exists.
I want to meet my ancestors, and wouldn't it be great if everyone had the chance to meet their heroes? I have my own idea of Heaven, but I honestly want to believe in it. It's hard though , I'm very skeptical.

I like to do random acts of kindness, I try to do one every day. It always makes me happy. I do it because I like when people do them for me and think that it doesn't happen nearly often enough. I may as well do them for other people, maybe they'll pass on the favor.

I believe in God, the Bible, Heaven and Hell in the afterlife, and I choose to do good because it makes everybody's life happier and easier.

But while we're on the subject, I am skeptical when anyone says "I choose to do good". Oh really? And if you chose to do bad, would you be here announcing it? This question, and all its would-be answers, is hardly proof of anything other than your opinion about Heaven and Hell.

Who would want to spend eternity worshiping a figure who supposedly destroyed cities for engaging in a sexual behavior he didn't like?

Why would I want to spend eternity with bigots in the likes of Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, where only dogma is important and reality is not?

And furthermore, if hell supposedly contains all sorts of diverse people and the scientists, philosophers, and other moral people who didn't view the bible as truth, why the heck would I not want to be there? Eternal torture is a matter of perspective. I think it would be more nauseating to sit around sheep than to speak with innovative and interesting people who have different opinions from myself.

because man created hell to help control man with fear. Maybe you don't understand how your love/energy can join the circle of love /energy that surrounds are planet, but doing what you are now, choosing to do good, is a big step in the right direction, just fill your heart with love and your there!!

We are used to seeing things that we believe in with our own eyes these days, on video, in photos or just plain in front of us. No one has ever seen heaven or hell, so they're losing their grip. People aren't used to imagining their realities these days. Back when the incentive trick worked, people were willing to believe a hell of a lot more.

Because maybe you really don't believe in either place, which is really sad. Which if your doing good despite whatever, that's great, but it may not be enough toget you to heaven, and hell is a horrible place I'm sure.
